the NES romhack version of Mario Special jeff briefly played is largely easier up until the bridge levels, which are weirdly more difficult because they werent designed around the cheep cheeps constantly respawning in semi-random patterns like they do in regular SMB

They cribbed Ape Escape from an Amiga game?!

I always use Retroarch first, it's just a lot faster and easier to get games running the way i want, finding answers to emulator issues is difficult so it's nice when things just work.
It's not great for everything, but it's a great place to start.

Jeff, If you do end up playing any more PC-88 games, I would personally be interested in seeing some of the earlier Ys games that I know originated on that platform like Ys I&II (aka Ys: The Vanished Omens and Ancient Ys Vanished ). I've played the PSP remakes of those games, but have never messed around with the original versions.

Jeff why you want 16 pads of drums? If you get 2 kicks, 1 snare, 1 clap, 2 hats, 1 cymbal, 1 shaker thats like an EP full of drums really ;). And usually 1 kick, 1 snare/clap, 1-2 hats is enough.

Ey if you have an akai fire it should have a generic mode with bank switches no? Also you probably know, but if youve gotten a generic pad controller in this style you probably could have gone half price (other akai, novation launchpad, behringer etc), unless you (secretly) use FL Studio (or it hit some other weird sweetspot of functions/footprint/price).

also what ever software u use to adress your fire pads with sounds you should be able to use ur asio driver or asio4all and set the buffer low enough to have only a couple ms latency.

@jeff I had to switch to in-ear headphones because my jaw was having the same pains.

It's not the best, but it sure fixed my issues of wearing headphones all day to listen to Slack pings and calls.

While my 18 month old son is a great sleeper, because of Covid I have work/baby sitting schedule that requires me to be awake for 20 hours a day a couple times a week, so I know your pain.
