Glad they were able to control it just before it reached your house. That's a blessing right there. I mean seriously, imagine that awesome video game collection burned down by the wildfire, that would have sucked ;)

EDIT: and shoutout to Skitchin. Played that game a lot when I had the Sega Channel. Cool soundtrack.

Skitchin' was the stuff of legend among my group of friends in 1994, if only purely for the fact that it had a tune called "Spicy Placenta". We all thought that was hilarious and just couldn't get over (a) those two words being together, or (b) that it was a song title, let alone that it was (c) allowed in a video game.

And yeah, the Mega Drive / Genesis has so many Amiga ports.

Genesis games had a sound, man. Like some dystopian cyber future in the machine world.

Fun fact: Jesper Kyd (who did the music for Sub-Terrania, Red Zone and The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis) was part of the Amiga demo scene (as was the rest of the company responsible for Sub-Terrania and Red Zone) and the music in his games was composed on an Amiga and through some sort of wizardry reproduced on the Genesis in 44kHz sampling rate instead of the usual 11kHz. With somehow even punchier bass, pronounced stereo effects and some of the tracks being over 20 minutes long.

Here's an example (for anyone noticing a pattern, post songs from this soundtrack any chance I get since I absolutely love it)

Ive stood with subterrania in my hands a bunch the last couple years :p contemplating whether it would be worth the 19 euros or not. It looks really interesting control-wise.

I'm pretty sure all those laugh, scream and scratching samples in the music were the standard ones built into the keyboards we had in high school. Obviously whoever did the music for this version of Double Dragon had just bought their synth and was all YO THESE NOISES ARE SO COOL WE CAN'T NOT USE THEM

That music from the second level pops up on Salty Bet, though! :D

So Zyrinx, the devs of Subterrania, were indeed Amiga demoscene kids. You might recognize the composer of those hot beats, Jesper Kyd, who was mentioned up thread--but you might also recognize the company they went on to make later, IO Interactive (by way of Reto-Moto).

Also, two other things:

- Jammit also came out on the PC, as a CD version. It is noticeable only for the boss dude saying "MOMMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT" with a CD-quality voice. The music is still eighty percent fake bass by volume.

- Jammit is a bad game.
