Jeff starts at around 25:45 (in the Youtube version, the dead air was cut out of the version on GB).

Spends 2 grand on a PC, plays games that a $5 raspberry pi can run :/

Shoulda at least done some 4K supersampled PS2 or Wii games, those would shine!

Love it when Jeff digs into the oldies. Wish DOS stuff got represented a little more for the sake of my own nostalgia, but Total Carnage and Burgertime are always alright by me.

Edit: Man, I forgot how vicious Total Carnage actually was, difficulty-wise. Smash TV was nails-hard, but TC actively fucked you at every turn.

I was so so sad when burger time wasn't on the intellevision lives ps2 disc. Such a great game still don't understand how the intellivision was not more popular.

@jeff Is this replacing the old games show? Loving it. Watched the stream you had on Google+ the other day as well.

These sorts of vids are honestly some of my favorite things GB ever does [or I guess jeff does it in his free time?, well he put it on the website so I count it]. Nothing against GB's other vids, but I love these!!

Cybernator is such a cool game. Too bad Jeff didn't pick up on the value of all the power-ups that you can get in the levels.

The levels in this game are really varied and, for an action game of the time, they do some cool stuff with the story.

The design of arcade games has always fascinated me. The need to balance a player feel like they are getting value for money with the desire to get as much money out of them is possible must have been a huge challenge.

I wonder if the opposition to modern microtransactions is simply a case of bad implentation of this similar concept or as a result of consumers becoming more aware of attempt s to drag money out of them.

Saw the header and for some reason thought this featured a game where you played as Jeff in his home and gained points by holding various video games and video game memorabilia

It's entirely possible Jeff explains all this in the video itself, but in case anyone is curious about that bit about collecting all the treasures at the end of Total Carnage, there's a story behind that.

PS: Hell yeah Mario's Picross!

100% this. I was the guy who asked in chat hahaha.

edit: Thinking about the other games that have showed up on RoF, I feel like OMF realistically won't stack up suuuuper well, but yeah, nostalgia.

Cybernator is my favorite SNES game by far.

If you beat the first stage without firing any shots until you get to the boss it unlocks a secret weapon that pretty much breaks the game. It's great!

If you're struggling to get One Must Fall 2097 to run, try it on DOSBox SVN Daum - http://ykhwong.x-y.net/

I've had no issues running that game. If it's running to fast or slow, try increasing (CTRL+F12) or decreasing (CTRL+F11) the cycles.

Your milage may of course vary. But if you don't adjust it, one might get results like this:

@jeff Someone mentioned Front Mission in the stream, and you should totally check out the sidescroller Front Mission: Gun Hazard, a Super Famicom only release that is very much in the style of the Assault Suits series. It's not as hard as Target Earth or even Cybernator, but it's very pretty and there's a translation patch to cover the story.

@jeff good to know my fresh install of Windows 10 isn't the only one that's borked! I can't run mail, one note or the start menu stuff. Fun. ps: I have tried about 10 powershell commands from Windows forums and ... nothing. I guess we wait for an update.

Also that Windows 10 start menu is a mess now. It just turns transparent at times and nothing works.

@1m20s: An Egg subscription, Mr. Gerstmann?

@8m: this music is kickin' Masanao Akahori? Don't know him, but it is kickin'.

Man, it's been decades since I thought of Total Carnage. Man, this boss is DOGSHIT. Bullet sponge and illogical graphical usage, just nah. The game kinda is too. Imma stick with Smash TV thanks.

I did this for the youtube version, might as well post here too. I find that these kind of videos should always have these lists, but I understand that they're not that easy to do:

1:54 - Cybernator (SNES)

18:45 - Burger Time (NES)

25:15 - Super Turrican (SNES)

30:50 - Super Turrican 2 (SNES)

47:13 - Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 (SNES)

51:50 - Baseball Simulator 1.000 (NES)

1:01:20 - Mario's Picross (GB)

1:08:10 - Total Carnage (Arcade)

Total Carnage is actually very doable and a lot more fair than Smash TV. The trick is that the bombs give you a few seconds of invincibility to get out of bad situations, and you acquire them constantly. Meanwhile I'm convinced that a single credit clear of Smash TV was never intended and the fact that it is indeed possible is sheer happenstance.

Holy crap those console versions of Turrican looked crap - and completely different games from the ones on Amiga. No wonder @jeff (and anyone in their right mind) would think of them as generic junk.

I have only quickly touched Turrican 1 but Turrican 2 still is one of personal favourites, still boot that one up occasionally and the soundtrack has taken place on active playlist for eternity.

Btw about the Windows 10 problems. It looks like the nvidia fucked up something in the BF1 driver and it was making all kinds of problems. There is updated driver out now and it seems to work better for me. Start menu works again!
