Lockdown 2020: The State of State of Decay 2

Game looks so much better with the new lighting. Xbox has done a great job of supporting their games long after release this generation.

I enjoyed State of Decay 2 until I encountered my first hostile NPCs and they were overpowered as hell. Super tanky and deadly accurate and basically invisible to zombies. It was unfair and completely turned me off the game. Hopefully they tuned them down.

I bought SoD 1 after seeing the SoD 2 Quick Look. Really enjoyed SoD 1. Got SoD 2 right after finishing 1, and didn't quite enjoy it as much.

But this reminded me I have it, and am downloading the Juggernaut update (am on PC) as I type this. I think it's been a long enough time away from this style of game for me to enjoy this one now - especially with the free time I've suddenly come into lately.

@wheelhouse: You know, now that I think of it, when I bought SoD 2, they gave me a bonus copy of SoD 1 and I think you inspired me to go back and play it. You know, with all that free time we have now.

Juggernaut DLC is good, but it really kicked my ass. I thought I was good, but I wasn't.

Way to go Vinny, pulling out Fresh Prince and Beatles quotes in the first three minutes!

I wouldn't mind the end of the world if I could weather the apocalypse playing co-op games with Vinny.

Damnit, I'm gonna have to reinstall this now. Forgot how much I enjoyed State of Decay 2! Real fun to see a coop stream of this game.

Gamepass is pretty amazing...gonna play this game from there next.

Playing games with Vinny is on my bucket list.

I hope they play more of this game. But I wouldn’t hold my breath considering brad drops game easily

The Vinny and Brad dynamic is great and especially in a game like this. One positive of the new all home streaming is cross coast pairings happening more often.

@leraa: I know Brad mentions 1 is more inscrutable than 2, but having played 1 first, 2 seems more simplistic than 1.

The biggest real difference (and I haven't yet finished a map on 2 - only on my 5th day) is there's less "story" in 2. Not that there's a TON in 1, but it's the first thing I noticed a year + ago when I played 2 for the first time. But both are, basically, the same game. I'd call 2 1.5 instead, with both upgrades and downgrades.

But still fun (especially after so much time away from the games). It and World War Z (now free on the Epic store) are what I'll likely play for the next week or so. Maybe longer?

@wheelhouse: Thanks for taking the time to write that. This is my first day back from a road trip across country to get home and I'm ready to play. Ima fire it up based on your description. Brad saying the first one was more inscrutable did catch my attention, but I hoped everything I learned on 2 would be backwards compatible. I played through several communities on 2. Your description of a bit more story on offer in the original makes it even more attractive.

I'm going to start 1 today. It's a perfect tone match for these days we are in right now.

I wanted to give this game another go after this video...but i kinda hate it.

Main reason:
This game is pure stress, there constantly people calling you for something, infections popping up left and right, zombie attacks etc.

There is no time to calm down a bit, relax, reflect, manage my loadout or something.

Could somenone tell me if this game stays this way?

I feel like this is one of those series that if they get the production values up for a third game and make the gameplay a tad more enjoyable it could really be that type of game that gets mainstream appeal.
