The reactions when they made it to that stage were great.

Always stand on the RIGHT side in the trash-boss fight. After the tower, he likes to place the junk to the left side, and many times you don't have time to kill it before it reaches you. Right side, hugging the wall, without climbing it, is pretty much 100% safe.

You can't stop me. The run is already underway! The world will burn in the flames of hell! ...uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

This series convinced me this is the best Contra game by far.

Even after 17 tries there is still tension in many of the fights and they still find new strategies.

I'm gonna guess this was indeed, the run.

If I remember correctly you can drop off weapons you've accidentally picked up by pressing down and both buttons jump and shoot together.

The reason I like this series so much is I remember doing the same thing with a friend back in the day. Playing this over and over, having shorthand descriptions for stuff, falling into specific roles during a boss. Mastering the early parts of the game while making incremental progress until it was a given that we'd make it to where we left off last time. Despite no RPG mechanics or stuff to unlock, a game like Hard Corps could give you a ton of satisfaction. And hours upon hours of fun memories. Dan even mentions how fun it is to know a game this thoroughly.

It's how entire games used to be played, and this feature captures that feeling pretty darn well.

I really think the double jump has instilled bad habits in Dan. He uses the double jump for all his evasion rather than the slide. There are moments, such as the "dolphin" boss where Vinny survives no problem with slides while Dan almost always does because he jumps into the boss.

Also I have not finished the video yet so maybe this is the run.

I want Dan and Vinny to be next door neighbors.

Amazing run today, they've almost got this game licked. Super entertaining to see them still laughing away as they play through it. Hard Corps is such an awesome game, and the music is so dope, esp the boss music, can't get that tune out of my head.

This game just keeps on giving. Dang.

Side note: Browny can apparently float SMB2 Peach style if you hold the button after a double jump.

The next episode very well could be the last one. Don't panic, guys. Once you make it to the top of the missile, just remember: S.D.J. You can do this.

By the way, Vinny's putting weapon C to work like a champ. Nice to see him using Shot II properly to really maximize the laser's effectiveness.

Heads up, discarding weapons is a thing in Contra 4 for DS IIRC. Maybe conflating the two? The hold jump to float is a thing in Hard Corps for sure.

So is this game almost just a boss rush game? Yeah there are some levels but 80 % of the game seems bosses.

I am just wondering, is there a better technique to use the yoyo weapon? Like having it bounce less on moving enemy?

Dan's just holding the fire button, which is totally fine, but yeah, there's definitely a better way to use the yo-yo weapon. In case it's not already apparent, the yo-yo weapon's main issue is when your target is moving. Getting closer to the enemy and holding the fire button only long enough to allow it to hit the target before tapping and holding it again to do the same very quickly is the way to go. Take a look at the following video around the 2:00 mark. You'll see how effective the yo-yo weapon can be.

This series has inspired me to finally go back and play Hard Corps: Uprising on my 360. I realize now that I never even cleared the first level in that game, but it seems like a perfectly good Contra game without the Contra name on it. It clearly uses Contra music in it, though.

Only real complaint I have is that when you kill the soldiers, their "argh!" sound effects are waaaaayy too loud in the mix.

This series is just so great.

I hope they'll pick up another game pretty much right after they are done with this one (because that's going to be very soon).

@chubigans: Agreed, there's so much wacky stuff in this game I'd like to see them go through the other routes as well.

Maaan. I would put money into a kickstarter to buy @danryckert the house next to vinny

I just played through this game with savestates....

I'm amazed they got as far as they did, I thought the last few bosses were a nightmare, but Vinny and Dan are totally killing it.
