Cool it's the 40+ duders being cynical on new games time!

I'm sure there are places you can go where some witless infuencer will feign excitement about yet another "open world" slogathon. Enjoy.

@leejunfan83: Yeah, sadly. I feel like it depends on the day. I love the other 95% of stuff here, and the staff in general, but at the start of every one of these talk-overs I wonder if we'll get either the negative mood or the cautiously optimistic funny mood. Today I felt like right from the bat the mood was negative.

I get that it's easier and more entertaining to be dismissive and make fun of stuff (it's human nature), but since we have gotten much much better than that from the site throughout the years, I know they can do better.

I'm not a fan of the current Assassins Creed formula, but after the "we went to Norway!" part I think it was the best showing of the stream. They did a really good job of making me not want to play Watch Dogs. Publisher presentations like this remind me why I don't bother watching if GB isn't talking over it.

Maybe I'm just done with AAA games, but I don't think anything they showed had any heart or passion behind it. Effort, sure. But like...what future game developer is gonna be inspired by fucking Far Cry 6?

Ubisoft: You guys excited to not see any creativity today?

Audience: Yeah!

Ubisoft: Great! We've got mobile games, a year's too late battle royale game and the same old franchises we've been making for years. You're gonna love it!

Audience: Wooo!!!!!

Yeah I can't take it any more unfortunately, Giant bomb used to be my favorite gaming site, I've been a part of this site since the beginning but I just can't take the negativity anymore. It's too predictable and it's almost like its become their brand. Video games are a fun escape for me, especially with everything going on in the world. I just can't deal with it anymore , it's been a good ride.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I always skip past parts on the podcasts where they feel obliged to speak about current events regarding the me too movement and end up having nothing of note to say.

People are complaining, but this is what I respect about GB. These guys are being honest about how they feel about the games and the Ubisoft presentation. They're not faking excitement where there isn't any, and they're not shilling games they're not into. I agree with some of their points about Watch Dogs 3 and the new Assassins Creed. I will still play both games to find out for myself if I enjoy them, but ACV better have some nice next-gen graphics for the new consoles, because the game they showed looks like a skin for Odyssey.

The crew has wives, kids, etc their just busy. You cant expect them to be super excited at a time like this. They have a ton of work and stress. We should be supportive. Do you really expect near 50 year olds to jump for joy cause some game came out and did something youve seen already. Jeff and crew play tons of games and just need alot to impress. Jeff likes good shooters like COD. Far Cry has never been his thing...etc.

Even of one did think the GB staff were overly negative, is this video really the best place to express that sentiment? Seriously, just a glance at this commence section alone shows that a good number of people had a similarly tepid reaction to the show. Just imagine what it must be like for the folks who've seen multiple Watch_Dogs, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and battle royale games, and watched a bunch of cinematic trailers devoid of gameplay throughout the years.

I'm not even sure why PR people let Alex preview their games. Even when the dude likes a game he has a sort of instinctual way of talking about everything like its existence is a pain in his ass. And hey, I like that about him, but I'd think a game company would want literally anyone else talking about their product.

So many people on here complaining about GB for being critical of a lackluster show of re-rehashed franchises that appear to bring NOTHING new to the table. Honestly, what do you want, blindly screaming into the hype void to get people excited for mediocrity? GB might not be the outlet for you...

You may not have intended this but your comment comes across as ageist. This could be articulated in a better (albeit less snappy but, ironically, less cynical) way.

I saw plenty of cynics on Ubisoft's Twitch chat. Actually, most comments seemed very negative. Worth noting that Twitch is predominantly used by those aged between 18-34. I think the sentiments of the crew were broadly in keeping with what many were saying about this stream: disappointing; nothing new; devoid of ideas; uninspiring sequels in perpetuity; apolitically political; abuse allegations unacknowledged; blergh; etc.

You can't force them to feign enthusiasm. The PS5 stream last month showed they can still be enthusiastic; last year's Stadia announcement stream showed that they can still be surprised.

Ubisoft's presentation was exactly what I expected it to be. Do any of us who post on a video game website forum really expect to be wowed by presentations anymore? Most of us have followed this industry for years (presumptuous?), and should be able to recognize the trajectory of big publishers. Maybe a rabbit hops out of Master Chief's helmet in a few weeks, but the industry is past the point of awe and wonder for longtime fans. The surprise of new experiences are mainly coming from indies and smaller publishers that only generate press after release -- I feel the same way about movies atm.

I just want to reiterate once more how gross I find it when people think anyone is being "too negative" about corporate products. It's not Giant Bomb's job to be impressed and excited about corporate advertising. It's the job of the corporation to excite US.

And fellas, this didn't do it. And that's coming from someone who's looking forward to some of these games. The presentation just did absolutely nothing for me.

If you "can't take it anymore" that people aren't super giddy about video games, because video games are an "escape" for you, then you may have deeper issues which perhaps need a solution that doesn't rely on the excitement of people you don't even know to keep your mood positive. You should come here to be entertained, not for confirmation bias or fake glee. If you're no longer entertained, that's normal. No one is entertained by one thing forever. But becoming a bitter child about it won't solve anything.

I think a lot of people that know exactly what type of roster Ubisoft deals with are expecting the same franchises but hoping they will do something new with them - that is the expectation anyway. Personally I wasn't surprised to see Valhalla basically continue the same mold as Origins and Odyssey, but I was maybe a little bit hopeful that they would introduce something new in terms of mechanics and gameplay.

After so many years I'm not expecting to have my socks blown off by a press conference but there is always a tiny bit of hope in the back of my mind that it will.

It's not Giant Bomb's fault that Watch Dog started with a trailer that used a Holocaust poem, then proceeded to #welcometotheresistance. It's not Giant Bomb's fault Ubisoft said with a straight face that Vikings were just farmers looking for a better life, just that they met with some resistance. Far Cry has been tone deaf for a while, and nothing in that trailer quells any of those worries.

This presentation was even worse than EA's. The last UbiSoft game I've played is probably AC4, 7 or so years ago and every time I see their new line-up of games I never feel the urge to play them. They'll look like they've come rolling of the conveyor belt from the big Ubi factories.

A new Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs, Far Cry and a Battle Royale shooter. Holy shit, man. I yawned so damn hard that my jaw locked into place.

Lots of interesting discussion here. While I agree that I don't need the crew to be faking excitement over stuff that doesn't do it for them, I wish there was at least a second person who'd be there with Vinny. He isn't faking excitement but he's not making me feel bad for watching the Talk Over either. Is that too much to be asked?

After this presentation, all of a sudden I get why Ubisoft keeps insisting their games are apolitical. They don't fucking understand what political is, do they? The people in charge of these franchises are people who've never had reason to engage in or care about politics their whole lives. How else could they be so goddamn tone deaf with that Watchdogs trailer?

That was fucking dire.

If you boil it down to "positivity" or "negativity" and that's your take away from an hour and a half stream, perhaps you'd prefer something a little more to your tastes... I know of plenty of Youtubers who squeal with glee when they open a lootbox or see a sequel to a game they play. Please, go enjoy some "positivity." Mmm, suck down that glittery corporate propaganda with a smile.

getting triggered over the silliest stuff thats just marketing for a game is really silly. It's watchdogs, what do you expect? the tone and aims of it has been the same since the first one to a degree. It's not trying to have some kind of profound message. Its just the setting for the game to be what it is, then you can do all the super silly shit.

They enjoyed the Sony live stream a little over a month ago. Why? They introduced a lot of new games instead of sequels, which Brad pointed out. They showed gameplay with some of the games, which Microsoft didn't. The reason they acted the way they did was because Ubisoft didn't bring it, which I mostly agree with. The new Assassins Creed didn't impress, and Watch Dogs Legion message was kind of all over the place. In one moment they present the game as a serious drama, then show a bunch of wacky stuff with a sarcastic British narrator. The GB cast are human beings, not laugh track robots. They have a right to their opinions. By the way, many other people on other websites like Youtube have been calling out these lackluster live Dev events recently. I don't see much complaining on their comments.

honestly I'd just wrap it up at this point. Obviously its just the money that matters(however little it is nowadays), clearly everyones enjoyment for games and the general industry is basically nothing. And no, this isn't defending a certain game, I think they all look rather lacking, except maybe AC when they choos not to show off the shitty 20-30 fps xbox version that looks downgraded , and I see the actual PC version - maybe that could be good. Its just the truth, having been here from day 1 of this site, its just a joke now. Makes me miss Ryan more than anything, who didn't just exist to talk shit about every game.

Well put.

All the presentations lately have been bad. Most of the stage shows have progressively been worse and less impact over the years too. Secrets don't get kept. Even the Demon's Souls remake, which got a reaction, was leaked before.

But especially the EAs and Ubisoft... when's the last time they had a good presentation?

And on the other hand, if you want a rah rah routine about whatever comes up, there are things like Easy Allies and Kinda Funny Games out there already, plus all the youtubers who do the same.

I for one enjoyed Alberto Mielgo's Watch Dogs: Legion trailer a bunch, especially the art and aesthetic. Dude is talented (worked on Love, Death and Robots and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse).

Oh no, Ubisoft said something political and didn't follow through. Whatever will I do with a game like this.

Lighten up duders.
