Unfinished: Destiny 2 05/23/2017

Jeff recorded himself shooting new space guns and brought the footage back to show Brad, Ben, and all of you.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

This might be some more Destiny, but all I want is some more Destiny. The changes to weapon load outs, Crucible, the new abilities, and four new areas seem cool and are more than enough for me to dive right back in. After spending so much time with the first game but dropping off after the last expansion I'm looking forward to hopping in to this with friends and folks from giant bomb.

While I played a lot of Destiny 1 up through The Taken King I'm not sold on this yet. Everything looked too familiar (weapons, environments etc) for me to want to jump right in. I'd also rather play this on the PC for the better graphics and stuff but I feel most of my online friends if they get this will go with the Xbox 1 version and I'm not sure I'd want to play it there.

not that it's excusing it,but it doesn'tseem like it's possiblefor them to completely overhaul destiny in the release timeframe they were given. im just hoping its more refined and conteent rich overall.

I was ready to complain about how similar this looks to the first Destiny, but this does look like a lot of fun.

I'm not sure how "different" people wanted it to be. The core of the first game, shooting, was solid and they just lacked story and stuff to do (early on, TTK helped but was later than it should of been) in the first game. It appears like they kept the solid core, added new activities, changed up the loot stats, added new gun types, put the story in the game and not on a website. They did everything people asked for during the first game and yet I get this vibe that half of people are still upset. Maybe its just people being reluctant after being burned the first time around.

A lot of people are complaining about how this just looks like more of the same, and that's fair, but honestly that's not a bad thing. The core gameplay of Destiny was really good; it was the lack of content and weird design decisions all around that really hurt the game. I'm totally fine with more Destiny gameplay as long as Bungie steps it up with everything else, and so far it does seem like they're very aware of the problems people had with the first game.

This looks like a really good strike. There's a lot more happening visually than there was in Destiny 1's strikes; I like how different each battlefield looked from the last.

As someone who bought Destiny but never played it, this has me more interested in finally opening my copy and seeing what the fuss is about. If the first game is similar to this, then it looks like fun. Seems kinda bland though? Is there more personality to the game? I mean obviously this was only a little bit of it, but this seems cool.

That last 10 minutes looked pretty rad.

The dissonance between the overall super-sanctimonious tone of Destiny and Cayde-6's quips makes me think the writing isn't gonna be especially much better in this one. I get it, it plays to a certain part of the audience, but it just ruins all the effort put into making the world seem grand and epic. It's not even that they can't have a comedic sidekick, it's just that they completely missed the mark on a tone that would work for this universe. Hell, the original ghost already fits much better than what they're doing with Cayde-6.

I enjoyed my time with Destiny but ended up being super burnt by their downloadable content releases. Had some great ideas and it played beautifully but I'm being cautious this time round.

I do think Destiny as so much potential, but I do worry that Bungie will repeat their mistakes all over again.

Gameplay looks fine once again, but what I want is content content content. Not just 3 strikes and the same missions over and over again, but make it a Diablo-length campaign that lasts for 20 hours or so. With decent character progression along the way and then you enter end-game raids etc.

I think this game still suffers from a mediocre engine, where it is very time consuming to create and review content, so they end up with 'not nearly enough'.
Also about the no 60 fps on consoles: Doom looks better, has a way bigger field of view, is faster and has as much if not more going on on screen in terms of effects and physics. There's no excuse anymore.

As someone who liked the first Destiny, this was a promising video to watch. Of course, I got in during The Taken King Expansion, and didn't bother playing the last one, since it really didn't add much of anything but more missions.

They really have to change it up more to get me interested again.

Although it being on PC... could be a nice background FPS game during some podcasts.

Their DLC approach and temporary events that give exclusive items that you could miss out on... ugh that makes me not want to touch a Destiny game ever again. I hope they stop doing that. It's not just Destiny that did that. Basically all MMO's, Overwatch, Planet Side 2 and Warframe do this for example. Urgh it can make me so angry. Pet peeves!

I like getting all the stuff. That's basically what drives me in these loot driven games. Unlocking cosmetics and such. But I won't be playing and keeping up with your game every day. Sometimes I have other things to do. I can't play Overwatch 24/7 in the next few weeks to get all the anniversary skins. It's infuriating.

I feel like instead of challenging me they're making me jump through hoops after paying them money for the game.

No loot drops from normal enemies again... sigh how in 2017 can loot dropping be so foreign to bungie. Brad saying this doesn't look like it will have a grind is based on What? He saw one strike with no profession or item drops. Of course there will also be micro transactions like they did with emotes and other crap but I just hope they make loot a fun thing to get.

Destiny is a grind. It won't be magically better in this one unless they make loot drops more common instead of the slow drip like in destiny 1.

Also this better be alpha graphics or something because this doesn't look like a next generation game.

A little disappointed that it looks so much like the original Destiny, was hoping Bungie would be willing to do something more radical. Unless they haven't revealed that yet. But underwhelmed by what I'm seeing so far, and I enjoyed the original Destiny.

I got in on Destiny about a month or so after The Taken King came out and had a pretty great time with it. This was further reinforced by a friend of mine picking up an Xbone and we toddled along through the game at a comfortable rate. Had a great amount of fun exploring all the content and doing the strikes. It was about a month after Rise of Iron came out that I managed to get in on a group that did the Vault of Glass on heroic and we absolutely aced it. In the end I invested 280 hours into Destiny and I can see myself doing the same if not more on Destiny 2 (PC). the PC is where all my friends play and I really really look forward to being able to give it a good bash with a mouse and keyboard. I have high hopes for Destiny 2 and trust the team.

I think all the negative stuff about destiny 1 not having enough content has some people like Brad and Jeff forgetting how extremely fun the basic gameplay was. I honestly don't know what people expected from this game, it's a sequel, it will not completely reinvent the game. All I want is some better story missions (which so far it seems like we should be getting), and more content at launch. Jeff's biggest problem with the first game was also lack of content and we won't know if that's solved or not until people play through the game. So far everything they are showing has me cautiously optimistic.

I don't like Bungie's bouncy animation style and cartoony voice acting, why on earth would you want a sarcastic AI following you around pointing out stupid stuff.
Should have known where they'd be going when the guy in the teaser shouted "THERE WILL BE A TON OF LOOT".... ugh.

Since it'll be coming to PC i have no doubt my friends will play it and i'll join them, but the good times will be due to friends not the game.

I'm so torn. It looks great, but how deep will it go?

I got Destiny on the Black Friday after Taken King came out and played 200 hours in the 11 months between buying the game and rise of Iron coming out. I never quite hit the level cap and I couldn't defeat Oryx on hard. I didn't have friends playing so had to LFG it. I spent 24 hours in that raid over the last week of the 'Moments of Triump', as party members dropped and we couldn't get the last calcified fragment. I gave everything to that game, came up just short and loved every minute of it.

I bought Rise of Iron and stopped after 3 or 4 weeks. I didn't want to deal with re-grinding all over again. I felt like I had had my Destiny story. The biggest knock I have against Destiny 2 is that my character and stuff will be gone. I know they probably have good reasons, but that character, my character, IS Destiny as far as I'm concerned. This was sold as a 10 year adventure and if the sequel gets rid of all progress then it isn't that. That was one of the coolest things about the idea of Destiny. If each sequel is a stand alone game then CoD is already a 14 year adventure.

I love Destiny and the way it plays. I never had the problem of no content because doing it ALL up to and including The Taken King (I didn't use the 'jump to level 36' orb thing) was a LOT of content. Rise of Iron was of course a lot less than all of that was and I worry that Destiny 2 will be the same. 4/5 hours of story missions at best followed by a grind. I know that Destiny IS a grind, but it wasn't the way I played it and more importantly WHEN I played. Perhaps I should jump into Destiny 2 at the Black Friday sale 2018. As much as I want to play in September, I imagine that will be the best option.

TL:DR: I'm waiting for the reviews before deciding despite putting 200 great hours into Destiny 1

The point where you have to "grind and grind and grind to get new gear" that Brad mentioned IS the game. Sure this strike looks fun but I realize that if you seriously want to get into Destiny 2 you will once again need to find a group of dedicated friends to play with and then you'll be doing this very same strike over and over again, except on the hardest difficulty so it's not going to play fast and loose like this at all.

Thank you for reminding me why I dropped extremely hard off destiny. I am extremely susceptible to the siren's call of shooting what to make numbers pop off.

I suppose quality of life improvements, new content, and a level reboot are the best way to try to get back old players and bring in new people that fell off or heard bad things about the previous game. But still a little strange that their big sequel push is basically a bigger expansion combined with losing all your loot/levels. One more skill button is not really the type of gameplay change that justifies a full-on sequel.

They really need to show whether the story/content are big enough to justify to get me in though, which they haven't really done so far. I'm likely not going to be doing the grind or high-end content, so the base story and breadth of material really needs to be there.
