Unfinished: Destiny 2 05/23/2017

Jeff recorded himself shooting new space guns and brought the footage back to show Brad, Ben, and all of you.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

I am so glad it's "just" more Destiny, because Destiny is great. Can't wait to play this.

I'm glad I can now take Destiny 2 off my "might buy" list for this year.

I was really hoping for some drastic changes, larger worlds, etc but I couldn't be less interested in more of the same here.

Reminds me of the things i liked about destiny, hopefully the game feels like a full retail product this time at launch instead of a skeleton game with 60 dollar add ons to get the full thing. I have vanilla destiny and there is literally no reason to even play it since the add ons were the meat of the game.

While it definitely looks a lot like Destiny, and I was mediocre on the original game...I inexplicably want to play Destiny 2.

These are the best gaming years we've had. More specifically, the best I've had. It's real popular to have 'older' games as your favorites, but over these last few years my entire top 5 of all time has shifted.

Since Destiny is actually on there, I can say with reasonable certainty that Destiny 2 will be one of the most fun and engaging games I will ever play. Given from what we know, it has a very good chance of becoming my favorite game of all time.

Given all their talk about cutting off lose ends and starting fresh, I do think it's disappointing that all we're getting is another expansion. Yeah, this looks fine and I'll most likely play it, but nothing is surprising or exciting about this video.

Also, Brad getting excited about fucking ships is so something a hardcore Destiny apologist would do. It's a goddamn loading screen and it would probably load faster it it didn't always have to load these models and backgrounds.

Dont see how anyone could be excited for what is essentially an expansion pack.

Totally burned by the first game, despite loving the game play. Not really sure what all the excitement is about after watching this

4 locations worries me again, it's D1 all over again I'll be holding off on this for awhile let others beta test it for me. I see they have confirmed micro transactions though, which was for loot boxes of emotes and armours, not totally against them but the stats where pretty decent on the armour you got all you had to do was infuse the light level.

Cons for me : 4v4 pvp, too little new with the classes, less customizable class specs, still using the light system, the new weapon system with shotguns and fusion rifles in the same slot as rocket launcher, not wholly separating pvp and pve balance, too few new locations (Hey maybe there will be a lot more unveiled before release), their unwillingness to just give us regular ass match making for all pve content ( I'm worried that nightfalls and the like still wont have matchmaking based on their presentation), more exclusive stuff for one platform over the other, no talk of if they have improved the engine to the point it doesn't the ages to make a new level, no past levels integration

Pros for me: PC, still looks pretty, the shooting still looks goddamn great

Yea, I'll probably play this waay too much

That skills screen is very GW2.

Also I gotta say I'm a bit bummed this is how Destiny is moving forward. I feel burned by buying Destiny 1 and not getting some of these basic features, like matchmaking and clans, that Destiny 2 is getting. It just felt like an incomplete experience.

The true test for Destiny 2 will be in its staying power. That trick is easy, just wait a couple of weeks after it's out and see how bad the level meta is.

But that's two weeks you could be grinding eh? Heh.

I'm going to withhold judgement for now, but hopefully Bungie realizes that they can't recycle the same three tilesets ad nauseum and make every single mission be "escort ghost to objective, defend ghost at objective, rinse and repeat" and pretend that constitutes a full game.

And by GOD, hopefully they dropped they idea of forcing the players to log in to some third-party website for additional lore and bonuses. That was some total head-up-ass "look at us, we're such auteurs" bullshit on Bungie's part. No one cares about your overly melodramatic space-story enough to have to put real, physical effort into accessing it.

Yes, I'm bitter. Blatant pretentiousness embitters me. :b

The fact that your cons list is a paragraph and your pros list is a sentence and you are still going to play loads of it.....Example of what is wrong with gaming public today? Maybe....? Sigh...only buy what is really good people - only buy what is really good.

Waitaminit... are ships still only in the game to float around during loading screens? I thought Bungie said they were destined for something greater in the sequel I refuse to apologize for this bad wordplay.

edit: It's shocking how much this looks like the same damn game as Destiny 1. I don't know what changes I was expecting, but it was something more substantial than what I'm seeing.

It looks good, but then again, so did the original Destiny and that turned out to be complete garbage if you didn't have a goddamn fire team to play with all the time.

It being on PC may be enough to push me over eventually, but I'm definitely waiting for impressions from people who aren't already sold on it.

The thing is that I enjoy the shooting so much that I'll have a lot of fun playing it even if it's not exactly what I wanted it to be. The value proposition is still really good for me considering how much time I'll spend on it having fun compared to the price. It's just that lingering feeling that it could be even better.
If I didn't enjoy the game that much I wouldn't care enough to even make a list of cons.

I often have that mental debate with my self if I should spend my money on something I have so many problems with but still enjoy so much. I usually wind up on the side of that it's just a game and if I'm having fun that usually good enough.

I was initially excited about D2 seeing how much time I spent in D1 and not really hating it..
But after watching this quicklook, Im actually going to hold off. . This game looks extremely outdated and feels like a serious attempt at a cash grab. I initially felt the first game should've been free to play.. This warrants that feeling even more so.. WarFrame makes huge updates without any upfront cash demands, and their fanbase pays them kindly for it..
Unless Bungie makes a bulletpoints list of what is being done under the hood that couldnt be done in the first game then is kinda tacking advantage of its fanbase.

I feel like the floor thing at 33:20ish would have been much better if they just let it happen and didn't chime it with "Oh hey, what's happening to the floor?". Something about the Ghost lines are just rubbing me the wrong way.

Edit: Yeah, this looks like the laziest sequel possible.

As Jeff said, If all the story missions and strikes are up to the level that these featured are, this will be a really good game. The core gameplay of Destiny, even back a launch, was great. The story, mission design and lack of variety in content is what put so many people off.

I get why people who didn't like the original would be put off seeing this video. I also get why people who loved the original are stoked by what they see here.

Does this game have matchmaking? Destiny not having it was the dumbest thing. Never got to play a raid, which ended my time with that game after finishing the (sparse) content in the vanilla release.

I haven't played Destiny 1 (or any of the expansions) but I've always been intrigued by it. The things I heard about it that put me off (other than being in First Person, which gives me headaches so I can't play for long periods of time) was the lack of consistent story progression through the whole game, and lacklustre repetitive missions.

If Destiny 2 can fix that, I'd be willing to deal with a lot of the other bullshit in it.

It does not get any better looking than these games. I don't care that it's affected, or hipster, I love that 70's sci-fi novel look they achieve. The architecture, the skies, the armor, the UI aomnomnomnom.
