I ended up really not liking the first Destiny, and it soured me on Bungie, after absolutely loving them for their work on Halo. But watching this... I'm totally going to play Destiny 2. Damn you, Bungie, you better not fool me again!

As someone who is following D2 meticulously, Destiny 2 is more of Destiny. If you didn't like Destiny, I'm not sure how you would like this game.

If they had cross save maybe, but I for sure won't be starting from scratch again, would rather wait for the PC version.

Yay, twenty more hours of me trying to figure out light levels and five hundred goddamn in-game currencies.

Pretty much every change they've made has been to make stuff easier for casuals. I really doubt all the currencies and consumables will be back, that would be very surprising.

Hey so look, I really am into the look of Destiny and I really played a lot of Diablo III. I have been poor for like a long time and now me and my wife are both working full time and I'm looking at a PS4 to catch up on games I missed. Is it worth going back to the first Destiny or should I just go for the new one? I've been limping by on a PC for a long while. This just looks cool as hell.

Oh, was that you making an effort, Bungie? ...Yeah, not really what I would describe as demonstrative of improvement.

@waterfallsuite: Depends on what you want to get out of it. If you want a game to fuck around in grinding for loot and gear and only playing solo Destiny 1 might be worth it. If you want to get the full experience with raids and fun group/clan activities I would go straight to Destiny 2. Group content is dead in the first game since it's been out for so long and that stuff is best experienced as its coming out anyway.

The first missions is awesome. The strike is awesome. The PvP is fast-paced and slick as hell. The reason the beta is so much like the original Destiny, is the fact that the original Destiny was pretty damn good. Destiny 2 is taking the things that made the original Destiny good (so most things), and then trying to do little things to improve on them, which is exactly what they should be doing. I understand people not going crazy for Destiny 2 because there aren't massive, sweeping changes, but I don't think that would have been the right move. While Destiny may have been messy at launch, at the end of those 3 years, it was pretty damn good. I'm glad Destiny 2 isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, when the wheel was rolling quite smoothly by the end.

@blister: I dunno, I've always thought Destiny had really good art/design. I mean, there's a lot of STUFF in Destiny, so it's not all gonna be great, but in general I quite like the aesthetic.

And those Bungie skyboxes always deliver.

And about Brad. The cosmetic crap he gets excited about in Destiny and Dota is all superficial fluff I don't care about in a game. I actually think the art style of Destiny is kinda ugly.

It does look better than Destiny 1.

Still seems like it's missing a hook or two to really make it interesting though.

The Legionary all looks like humanoid guinea pigs.

Edit: wasn't the guardians were reanimated dead people? So if they lost their light they go back being dead?

Edit Edit: lol brad is a destiny addict.

No interest in the first game, but with it coming to PC I'll definitely give this a shot. The shooting definitely looks like it's satisfying.

The Destiny games are weird to me. On a technical level it's so impressive. It's polished and well crafted and expensive looking. And yet I can't help but think that it all feels so fucking bland. It's overproduced mediocrity. A bombastic, flashy slog full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. The character and enemy designs look like rejects from Halo and Mass Effect.

And yet a part of me really wants to like these games. I just don't know why Destiny feels like some Bungie Lite side project when it could be the most epic, ambitious thing in gaming.

First, to Brad's point, yes, the aiming definitely feels different from D1. There's more recoil and the auto-aim is a bit less sticky. Can't say I like it. It feels more sloppy and imprecise.

Second, while I appreciate them adding "story," everything is just so static. Everything plays out like some weird detached theater that you can't interact with, and they're still struggling to make a grand story work within the frame of your utterly generic protagonist. It's still D1 mission design, it's just they've interspersed it with more interactive fade-to-black cutscenes. There's still something incredibly empty about the single-player experience, even though it's way better than what we had before. Personally, I could give a crap about a better story, what D1 really needed was varied mission design. As the guys said, it was all scan things and fight waves. I don't see any difference here. The missions here could have been randomly generated and I wouldn't have been able to tell a difference. It's just enemies in various corridors and arenas, and their design doesn't lend itself to any particular type of set-piece encounter. We just have spaceships flying in the background and your ghost saying, "Look, Guardian, we added STORY." Ok, back to the same exact gameplay from D1.

It should be noted that I played the hell out of Destiny 1, and loved the raids and endgame exotic gear grind, and especially Trials of Osiris. I'm just not seeing a huge improvement here in D2.

Graphics could be a little better. Looks slightly updated, but with much better FX which do go a long way. I actually liked the first one, but felt very ripped off and quit before first expansion. Think I prob will get this as it looks like at least more of what they promised first fucking time, but not sure if I should go PS4 or PC :-/

I'm not going to let myself get pulled into this one despite that first level looking really neat - the handful of cinematic-styled opening levels of Destiny 1 were really promising, too. After that, it's a game I just don't want to play.

Bungie somehow makes fps games that never feel as good as other better fps games . It doesn't look like they made the shooting any better and the shooting in destiny felt pretty bad. No weight to the weapons or impact or sense of power

Yeah, I still think Destiny is the best looking game I've ever played, in terms of art direction and a style that speaks to me. Everywhere you go in the first game looks like it came straight out of a Chris Foss book cover. Or as I said at the time:

No Man's Sky captured a lot of that as well, but it felt a bit more sterile and not really a "real" world like Destiny can feel (which stands to reason, considering how their respective environments are created). Destiny has had wonderfully meticulous design hands applied to it, with the imperfections of every nook and cranny considered, and I really appreciate that.

I really hope they lean in to some of the weirder stuff in Destiny 1, specifically the things like if you made it through that level in fast enough time and beat the boss you unlocked the ability to get that hidden gun.

Probably because Ben told Brad at least twice in this video that Brad needed to turn up his sensitivity. @banicabolnica seems to be politely disagreeing with that advice.

The heads of a certain enemy type they (the first they encounter) look like hamsters to me. I don't know why, but it amuses me a lot. Hamsters in big armor. The most basic of grunts; it seems so right.

Yessss I'm ready to hate myself for dumping too much time into Destiny again. Just played the beta and man the new warlock super is fantastic. Definitely getting this on PC. So much hate on this I definitely don't understand, shhh and just let people enjoy things. It's Destiny and idk why are people expecting such vast changes when the core gameplay is glorious. Bungie is second to none when it comes to shooting mechanics imo. And if I can get more of that with lots of new stuff around it, sign me up!
