Unfinished: Dishonored 2 09/29/2016

If vape rings are the future of alt-history, things are going to get a whole lot more chaotic around here.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

I simply thought it was a rather bad stealth game. I've played through half of the game (I think) and nothing really caught my attention. SO yeah I agree that this looks way too familiar. Darkness powers looks neat though.

Just for a bit of context, what do you consider a good stealth game?

First Dishonored also had some great DLCs. The Brigmore Witches is a better game than the vanilla Dishonored, with gang wars and a tight hub area with a river. And Daud's blink ability was so much better than Corvo's.

Didn't really care for the first one. Sort of like Brad said, I felt paralyzed by choice, but I would say it felt more like being paralyzed by power. The game never delineated a proper challenge for the different play styles, it simply provided the play styles, gave you some challenges, but didn't properly tune those challenges to any of the play styles. Everything felt so inconsequential, especially when you learned how to exploit the game.

I believe Dishonored is considered "Gaslamp Fantasy", not Steampunk.

Honestly, I'm only interested in this game for Emily, and that's only because I really, really, really liked The Darkness. If it's just that plus stealth Spider-Man and I'm in.

This looks like more dishonored. I'm up for more dishonored.

Bit worried about the blink 'snapping' to certain spots. Maybe it's a console thing?

There's a few developers i feel this way about but Arkane Studios is at the top of them, despite making great games i just can't bring myself to look at them, something rubs me the wrong way about every little part of the first Dishonored and the same is happening here, i feel the same about the Prey game they're making i just don't like what they're doing.

I have been obsessed with stealth action for as long as I can remember, between MGS, Splinter Cell, Hitman, Manhunt, and any elder scrolls game where sneak is my primary attribute, i just love sneakin! when dishonored came out however, i couldn't stand it for more than the 3 hours i forced myself to try it for. I think the aesthetic feels unnatural and forced, and the game play feels like a bad combination of bioshock hitman and theif. wish i could love it

I hope this time around they let you change the item you wield in your right hand. Really loved the first game, but it always annoyed me that I was forced to wield the short sword on my pacifist route. I would have prefer the option to bind something more useful to my play-style.

I am kind of with you. I tried playing Dishonered twice - both times I ended up bouncing off of it a few hours in. The best way I could describe it is that I just never felt fully in control of my characters. In something like MGS5, I always felt like it was my fault that I got killed/caught, because I always felt 100% in control at all times and knew how to do what I wanted to do. Dishonered was the complete opposite of that for me.

I felt fully in control in Dishonored. Don't think I ever got caught where it wasn't my fault. I get why people have that feeling, you teleport somewhere and you're being spotted immediately upon arrival. But you just can't suddenly appear somewhere and expect someone to not see you if you pop up right in front of them.

After you learn you can't just teleport around willy nilly, as your character is not invisible, things start to click.

I think Dishonored was really fucking cool. It's really too bad a lot of people didn't know how to play it/didn't like it. It is a very good game.

It's most likely because they (have to) play tons of different games and very rarely get completely into one for a longer period of time. They also very rarely play things on a higher difficulty or competitively. I think Brad playing Dota and Patrick playing Spelunky is the only things I can think of.

@zevvion: That might be if, but I would have to revisit it(for a third time) to be sure. Everything about the game appeals to me; it's art style is great, I adore stealth games, and it has a compelling story. I am finishing up Rise of the Tomb Raider now - maybe after that I will give Dishonored another go.

@ssully: Maybe you're expecting it to be/play a certain way because you like stealth games so much? I honestly feel like it's its own thing. If you do end up revisiting it, try to approach it with an open mind. It is unforgiving: if someone has line of sight, they will see you. That, coupled with the fact you can teleport around, might cause you to get spotted often. I think maybe if you just try to understand how the game is set up/designed, you'd have a better time with it.

@ssully: It's an easy game if you approach it with verticality in mind. First thing I always did was blink to a high and safe position like a roof or even a bookcase in a building. After that it's a case of deciding the safest order to pick-off npc's. I would blink behind them and choke them out, then blink back to my safe-zone with the body. Teleportation makes difficulty in that game non-existent when used right.
