As GitS:SAC is my favorite anime of all time, it saddens me that this is the best they could do, a shooter. And they don't even tap into the wealth of possibilities the universe provides. No thank you.

Came for the anime, stayed for the wrestling.

It's such a shame they're wasting all these assets, an interesting universe, hell even all the original voice actors on a F2P run of the mill shooter.

No i haven't, actually i'm kind of scared too.. it's tough to be on your game for so long, and i dont think the crazy visuals and faster pace work well for Oshii in general, let alone a live action film. Avalon worked beacuse it was so subdued, these other movies look ironically entertaining at best.

Nah, Jeff is right it's a Mateba revolver known for their unique design in which a revolver actually operates on a recoil based semi automatic firing design. Whereas the Chiappa Rhino is a revolver in which the firing function is the same as ordinary revolvers it's just the barrel is positioned on the lower axis. The next video shows the Chiappa, you can see the differences in the Mateba pictured in the quick look and above video by the Chiappa's rail system and lack of semi auto functionality.

I could see the confusion though given both firearms having barrels on the lower access.

Stand Alone Complex is quite good. This game looks less as much.

I watched Ghost in the Shell some time ago and found it stylisitcally cool but underwhelming from a story perspective. I never understood why so much of a fanbase emerged around a movie that didn't really have much of a plot, but after watching the quick look and reading some of the comments here, I think I understand a little more. Is Stand Alone Complex worth watching for some hot cyberpunk dystopia action or not so much?

Also, the excellent HL2 mod NEOTOKYO° continues to be the best Ghost in the Shell game.

I just realized that a lot of films I love are 90 minute movies with weird asides that don't drive the plot forward. Ghost in the Shell is a good one of those.

Oh right, this wasn't a quick look before, just a random game during a random stream.

Also, the story of the original movie is a lot better than Jeff is giving it credit for. I wrote a few papers discussing it in my Japanese film classes (it wasn't all anime, just GitS, Perfect Blue and Mind Game) and it's actually a pretty good story about whether or not cyborgs actually have souls (you know, a ghost in the shell), something that doesn't come up very much at all elsewhere in the various other shows and movies.

@j23: Personally I like Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig way more than the original movie. The movie was alright, but I didn't become a "fan" until I saw the anime series. They spend a lot more time actually developing the characters and delving into different subject matter. I would definitely check it out, even if the movie didn't do much for you.

Before watching this, I knew fuck all about either Anime or wrestling.

Now I feel that I know a little about wrestling.

The lack of fan service in the GTS game parallels the lack of service to fans of WWE... how this quick look completely wandered a state of wrestling speech is great!

Wait is John Cena the choosen one to bring anime and wrestling together? He likes Fist of the North Star so that's a start.

For my money, the shooting and polish on this game is a LOT better than what I expected. But yeah, it's just sort of an adequate shooter without movement options. Pretty lame.

But the SHOW. Boy. Stand Alone Complex has some of my favorite episodes of television EVER. What a cool fuckin' cyberpunk thing.

(2nd Gig isn't as good but Solid State Society is pretty great. Not sure about that new Arise stuff though! The art just doesn't do it for me!)

I haven't finished the QL yet, but just to add to the conversation about the fanservice being pretty lazy in this game, this sign in the background mashes part of the series Japanese title with 電氣, a word that in this instance would be something you'd see in the name of an electrical company of some sort... only the part of the title they use is completely nonsensical in this context. I mean, obviously a joke, but this isn't even low hanging fruit; this is fruit that was already on the ground that they picked up and didn't even bother to polish with their sleeve or something before eating.

I've seen the first two GitS movies and both seasons of SAC. They are all pretty amazing, even if the Laughing Man was a better villain than the Individual Eleven. I also think that the dubs are really great.

I picked up a beta key for this when they were on sale a month or so ago and I was really excited for it for a few days. Then, unfortunately I got bored. I'm with Jeff's point that they could have done so much more with this license than a mediocre MMOFTPFPS. The devs say there's more game types and stuff on the way, so maybe they will make it interesting again. We'll see.

They should've imitated Syndicate instead of CoD.

Welp this was a shit show. A video of a bad looking game with more talk about hhhhhanime and hhhhwrestling than about how bad this video game is. Guess that's why we have a whole podcast. I have no attachment to Ghost in the Shell outside of seeing that first movie years ago and thinking that it was quite stylish but also largely incomprehensible. Thanks as always duders.

The PS2 game was amazing (based on like 12 yo memories). It has the right amount of anime that you want in a game and has the hacking and movement that is demonstrated by the major in the manga / movie / anime - may be a worthy addition to 'the old game show' - are you guys still doing that?.

As far as I'm concerned, Ghost in the Shell begins at the start of the movie and ends at the end of the movie. Everything else is non-existent to me.
