Brad played some Mass Effect and wanted to Mako video about it.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

I'm getting more and more suspicious of this game, everything they have shown is action action action. Definitely not what I come to Mass Effect 4 (get it?).

Well I am sold- I was supper worried because I could not get into Inquisition and then all the comparisons came. The difference that makes it for me though is the combat in Inquisition (from the couple of hours I made it to) was like a bad singleplayer MMO clone-thing (I am sure it is deeper, but it came down to holding a button and watching stuff die), but hte combat here looks diverse and awesome. Also this one of my most beloved series so even if they don't hit the same high, I still want to know. I will get this a couple of weeks after release for a reasonable price.

I'm glad I'm buying this purely for the multiplayer. The combat looks alright, but I'm willing to bet the story and character writing will be absolute dog shit.

Too much action, not enough RPG. Looks good, just super sanitized and boring. And after the DLC stuff with the last ones, I dunno man.

Jeff basically arguing that you would want just more of the same characters, and that you would want the opposite of modifying the traditional ME structure, NO that's not what you want. Everything Jeff says these days is just negative and leaning towards defaulting to being disappointed by anything new. He is such a boring cynic! Nothing pleases him! Always disappointed, things are never enough! Gaaaaaaah!

I liked Inquisition so if this is a Mass Effect version of that then that's fine by me. I'm playing through the first one again right now and it reminded me how much I loved exploring the planets even though the Mako sucks. Getting super pumped for Andromeda even though I had my reservations

I don't want to sound like a dick, I probably will though. Just wanted to give some feedback. You guys don't do this format very often, so it might be irrelevant, but i would definitely appreciate if you could sync the stuff you talk about with the videos you are showing. Becuase i feel like everything you mentioned, was in those videos, just not at the time you talked about it. And that left me wondering about some things (like the radial wheel with "Favourites" powers). But maybe I am just underestimating and average viewer. Anyways, i think making it a bit more organized would go a long way.

I think most of the gameplay looks great. The mechanics seem improved and I like the sound of bigger areas too. Hearing you can get every abiity is a bit questionable to me but we will see. Either way it seems like an improvement over the last couple.

There also will be crafting and other mechanics to keep you busy.

Basically like Brad says, we will see how the story is. I think trying to paint this as the same again is a little silly. If you think you can only make 3 games with the same species okay but I want more Mass Effect. I didn't want all new aliens.

Also them with an area they are saying is the Citadel from ME 1 is a great thing. That kind of big hub area was really missing from 2 and 3.

On way or the other, they're not a problem. A massive weapon creates a huge explosion with different colors depending on your choice. All choices in some way mean the Reapers are done. There is a final choice where you can refuse and leave a message for the next cycle instead, but if that's the canon one and reapers show up in Andromeda I'm giving this game 1 star.

Edit: "What's Shepard favorite color?" hohohoh

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the faces look really weird on this game, it seems that Jeff has the same feeling. I've been noticing it for a while but saw no one talk about it, I almost thought it was something wrong with me.

As for the game itself, I don't know, I was an huge Mass Effect fan but looking at everything so far, including this video, I'm not feeling much excitement which is weird. I'm curious about it because I liked the first trilogy, but besides the curiosity there's nothing that's making me go "I have to play this game!". I need to know more about the story, that's what got me hooked on the previous games.

@lawgamer: I think we see in a more enlightened society, we mix races and racism goes away. This type of mission would be for the elite, all the poor people would be left back home... so again it makes no sense to why the best of the beat would be split. You'd come together and form some kind of UN, especially after what happened, but also because space travel will always be costly, your race would not be able to sustain too much loss before it became too expensive to keep conflict, the exotic materials they use and the gates etc, they're precious in the very lore.

To me what they're doing is trying to recreate the same story as the first trilogy, they'll bring back conflict between races and tell the same stories... making the original trilogy pointless.

Bioware need to hire GOOD writers... what about that guy who left Valve recently? He's an amazing writer, Portal 2 was far beyond anything Bioware ever told, hell even Valve had robots that animated more human than any Bioware game.

+ I hate it when every alien race is some humanoid, it's highly unlikely we'll meet Aliens who look like us but with a different head.

Why would the take out the ability to aim and order your squad's abilities? That's going to make biotic combos hell unless the AI is brilliant or you just spec to do it yourself.

I guess the guys never tried that out in the older games (seemed like Brad thought that was a new feature in this game), but I'm having a hard time imagining a playthrough where I don't order someone to float a guy so I can blast his ass to the moon with a combo.

HAH

@rorie About what you guys talked about with the textures and pop-in. I can't say that the engine change helped very much. I'll enter a conversation and everyone will be a blurry mess until their armor suddenly appears.

It's a much prettier environment than they used to have, but it's still a messed up game graphically speaking. I saw this one for myself:

thanks for taking a moment to use the honest expression of my issues with Jeff to make yourself look like a cool poster! you got yourself a cool ass post there, my dude.

In an era for GB when there are so little voices around, Jeff gets to fill up a lot of the emptiness on the west coast with his opinions which as of late have been mostly a BUMMER to hear. It's just my take, you can disagree with it if you'd like. Jeff liking a well-written Far Cry derivative (not just, being reductive admittedly with this) and a console FPS is no surprise, so 5 star reviews of things he has always liked doesn't cancel out the attitude of pessimism (my read on it) he's been putting in the air as of late.

That aside... this looks focus tested all to hell and seems kind of soulless. I loved the Trilogy but Andromeda seems to be taking way too many cues from Inquisition for me to get excited. Maybe the combat will elevate it (Inquisition had one of the most boring combat systems I've ever played) but the structure seems to be hewing way too close to Inquisition's slog.

I hope I wind up being wrong and it's GOTY material, but nothing I've seen so far has given me any confidence.

Mirrors my opinion about the game. Hope im proven wrong, but the more i have seen and hear about it, the less i want to play it.

Can you argue his point, or are you just going to resort to snarky comments? If he was as negative as you claim (you also pointed out that hates anything new), surely such titles wouldn't receive such praise. In recent memory, Jeff loved Let It Die, Titanfall 2, NiOh, and Horizon. Three of those four titles are new IP. If by defending Jeff you mean stating facts, then sure.

As long as I could vanguard into stuff and shoot it with a shotgun, I'll have a good time with the gameplay.

Hopefully Bioware surrounds it with good stuff. I thought ME2 had a pretty crappy and aimless main narrative, which is why I preferred 3 (my favorite game of last-gen). So I hope this is more than some strong characters doing a bunch of well-written side missions.

Also, the humans look like weirdos.

Then leave. Just because you don't like one person's opinion doesn't mean the rest of us don't appreciate it. Personally I am thankful for his viewpoint. What good is it when everyone is always fawning over the next newest and greatest game? It is good to have both sides of the spectrum.

@mstrmnybgs: "If you don't like it then leave us alone" No? Just learn to accept that I am voicing my opinion. Jeff hasn't always been grating to me as he has been lately, I'm also not telling him he needs to stop or anything, so what's the harm in me speaking up about my opinion on a website and people I like?

Don't feel the need to defend Jeff from me.
