I wasn't too interested in this, but the footage actually looks pretty damn neat.
Just like Jeff said though, I really wonder how you trigger a lot of that cinematic stuff in combat.

I love the shit out of the first game. I bought it twice just to get the trophies all over again on Ps4. This has just become my most looked forward to game of 2017 after Mass Effect.

I am sure what they are showing is the first big assault you do, which would be heavily scripted.

lmfao, that troll went straight Bane on that mount.

I don't know if that narrator is going to be in the game or not, but all I could think about during that video was "Alright 47, your job is to siege this fortress and assassinate the Overlord.".

Whyyyyyyyyy is this attached to the LOTR licence.... It is so outlandishly fan-fictiony. Game looks neat but as a fan of LOTR and Tolkien this looks more like an anime spin-off written by 10 year old me.

This footage looks a bit fudged together for their presentation to show off lots of things together, which is whatever, fairly standard, but the systems look promising in ways I really expected more games to be doing by now. I've lost most of my personal interest in "games as movies where you do the fighting" style of experience. Gameplay that extends into the story is much more interesting

I forgot that Shadow of Mordor won Giant Bomb's GOTY. That game really surprised everyone.

I hope they've put some love and care into crafting those 5-6 zones in this one. I didn't hate the two areas in the first one, but they certainly weren't anything special.

Good afternoon, 47.

Your target is Ur-Hakon the Dragon, a fierce and notorious warmonger of the dragon clan of orcs. Our client, a high-ranking chief of a rivaling clan, wishes for the overlord to be dispatched in order to claim his highly valued estate. The region is characterized by high political volatility, and this brand of 'diplomacy' is nothing out of the ordinary. According to our man on the inside, the target has set up numerous preventative measures to keep any unwanted guests out, including a reinforced gate, as well as a drake. The venue will be crowded, but that certainly hasn't stopped you in the past.

I'll leave you to prepare. Good luck.

I tolerated the first game's mangling of Tolkien's world because the systems seemed interesting enough, but this is just too much. It looks so gratuitously stupid. And a Diablo-style loot system is enough to keep me away forever.

I think they had the combo meter at max so it could just do executions at will? I think that lead to some confusion. I also feel with the boss they kind of edited out any regular hits too. Just how it seems to me.

Anyways, I never picked up the first game because to me it seemed a bit simple and just AC-like is not enough anymore, but this looks expanded in some cool ways. Having loot and more of a strategy layer (which I like in open world games) is cool.

This looks really cool. Too bad there is no way to know if it will be as horrendously terrible as the first game. All of that game's potential was squandered on the fact that it was so superbly easy, you would never die and the Nemesis system would never actually come into play.

It occurs to me that game could've been easily fixed by just allowing the Nemesis system to develop freely without being constrained by player death as much as it was. Looking at this, I can see some ways it could work. They could implement an XCOM-style 'some shit is going down over here, here and here. You only have enough time to assault one of these strongholds. The other two you can send forces to, but they will likely succeed with whatever it is they are doing, so they will increase in power and such'-type thing.

Looks alright i guess, it seems like they expanded their concepts in every aspect, i hope we get more of a sense of how it plays later, whatever, you can wear rohirrim armor so i'm still going to play it. Hopefully the pc port is as good as the first one.

I look at this as how a kid imagins playing with his toys: " ...then he jumped and killed the troll and then the dragon came y burned everything but he mounted it and is flying and shooting arrows upside down..." its stupid and makes little sense, but is supposed to be a fun time in a universe you enjoy.

Some cool ideas in the video, but it looks like they really rigged it to be as easy and sleek on the eyes as possible.

It's funny how dismissive Brad was towards Rorie's story questions. I don't give a shit about LoTR or any lore that much, so it's always a kick to watch diehards freak out or be forced to swallow their disapproval of a reimagining of their beloved worlds.

I forgot how mad, boring the main character of this series looked. Oh well, as a pitch to how they added on to systems of the first game I'm decently intrigued. I'm not much for Diablo loot if the stat changes become to granular, but the rest of the added progressions seem neat.

If I recall, the first game was no stranger to pulling the camera away from you to show a Warchief or someone entering the scene, so I'm expecting that a lot of the cutaways shown off here will happen without your input, and just as a result of background systems working together.

Lastly, as I super don't care about the lore of LotR I wouldn't mind them going full off-script without feeling the need to stick to any pre-established canon. I hope they go nuts with it.

Ton of new stuff, will be interesting to see if they can pull it off. There have been a fair amount of sequels that have bolted on RPG/strategy mechanics on top of a simpler action-based game and caused it to all fall apart. Darksiders 2 was effectively ruined by them adding loot to the game.

It's a less a reimagining and more a 10 year old playing with his orcs and Gondor soldier toys creating his own crazy story-lines until mom calls. The game looks fun but their reasons for using this specific license for these games seems kind of lost on me as it breaks the consistent world building of those stories and books constantly. I think this would have been waaaaaaay better in say the Warhammer world.

I don't need to play a poor-mans Aragorn with Night Crawler abilities creating orc armies and KILL SAURON, YO. Perhaps it's just as simple as WB already owning the license and Monolith/WB using what they have.

Let's watch a video of Brad watching a video of a video game Brad previously watched live and then got a copy of live video to watch back live and talk over for this video.

Edit: Wait... This isn't live demo footage at all. It's just a stock narrated gameplay walkthrough. Not exactly sure what the point of making this an Unfinished is. I'd much rather watch the walkthrough without their ramblings and just listen to Brad talk about what he saw on the bombcast. This feels really counter productive to me. Maybe they're just looking for an excuse to make more video content to meet CBS quotas or something.

Maybe they will have things like you mention but they show a guy going down on your side (Burned) at that one point in an unavoidable way it seems. Plus you have spies and traitors. Promoting your guys and having different generated aspects, like tribes now, matter to how things go. They are putting it in a lot of other ways. I agree that the Nemesis system having so few points to actually interact with it was very limiting but I think this is showing new cool ways to do it and hopefully it goes from there.

If there are going to be like 5 or whatever full trees of guys like the first game I hope there are lots of ways for things to go and it can be a little brutal with your guys going down and interacting in different ways.

I also hope you get a good chance to fight alongside some of your guys throughout the game if you want. I think it could have a cool feel of developing characters and attachment to them like you get in XCOM but we will see if the game has it.

If you're really interested in some answers you should watch the actual video out there because there are points of this video where they are talking over the narration explaining the things they are asking.

But the cut away thing is a real question. I think when he says they are just maxing the combo meter for the demo he's right.

This series is the dumb macho crap I'm tired of in AAA gaming. So much emphasis on gore, loot and watching bars tick up like a mobile game. It's the "dudebro" of fantasy games. I didn't like the first at all though, so I guess it's just not for me. I love LOTR but this aspect of them is one I never go into (the generic look of the orcs and Mordor).

Maybe different war lords you have under control have those scripted pop ins as a skill? Like as a sniper the spy guy has a skill where he can eliminate a enemy war lord for you?

Put me in the interested camp - this looks cool. If there's one thing I hope they make a little better however, is how they bring the game to a close.

The way they set up the ending and close out the first game was utter garbage, but I do understand that games are hard to create endings for, especially open world games.

I really hope this game is challenging enough to warrant all these systems. Difficulty options at the very least. I would've enjoyed Shadow of Mordor so much if I ever actually died and saw the nemesis system do its thing.

yea, i had to intentionally die a few times to level up orcs and shit in the first game. i really liked the game but it was super easy. hopefully this one at least offers the option to make it harder since thats actually a gameplay mechanic.

Man, it's crazy some people had such an easy time with Mordor. Maybe I'm just too ambitious, don't know when to run away or am just quite mediocre at video games (I suppose a lot of people on GB's forums do play these action games on their hardest difficulties whereas I find normal sufficiently challenging) but I died over and over and over in Mordor, especially in the first 15-20 hours when I didn't have many powers maxed out. By the end I was quite unstoppable but I felt like I'd earned it and I really wanted to unleash my fury on certain orcs who'd been bugging me and ruining my fort raids from the very beginning. There was one orc in particular that had leveled up so many times and earned nearly every defense buff in the game by constantly storming in on fights, shifting the tide of them and killing me in two or three hits that I was becoming quite sure I'd never kill him. It was so satisfying when I finally did.

Actually, scratch that woe-is-me shit at the start. If anything, I'm glad I'm not great at (most) action games so I could have that experience some people apparently didn't.

I feel like this game was at it's hardest when it was overwhelming you with a LOT of orcs, like way too many orcs shooting/throwing things at you and more than 2-3 orc captains coming at you. I wish those instances happened more often to give it more challenge, so I'm hoping with the expansion of this world in the new game we see more of that.
