This just seems like a system where you gather resources before storming a castle (the dragon, the tiger, etc.) which play out in a similar way to mass effect where it just checks if you've done a certain thing and then throws them in during the fight.

The issue is that that isn't true. I specifically mentioned an orc who got one over on me again and again, and moved from not even on the chess board to one of the warchiefs by the time my game was done. By the time I finally beat him I was rolling in with multiple mind-controlled captains of my own and hellbent on causing his death because if I didn't conquer him I couldn't get to the endgame. That was a story that existed only in my game and only because of the Nemesis system; as I said at the end of my post, I'm actually glad I had a hard time with this game from time to time, especially in the early hours, because I got to see a grunt rise to become my greatest... nemesis over the course of the game. Mordor was my GotY 2014 for that alone.

@zevvion said:

@nodima: I died 4 times in my 15+ hours with Mordor. Three of them self-inflicted just so I could see what would happen with that Nemesis system. Turns out, not much. Some fancy cinematic played, but it had practically no effect on the world or gameplay itself.

I will remain with my opinion that I had then: I'm almost confident that people who played the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of that game would have virtually no different experience than anyone else.

I think mordor would've been much better with a harder difficulty setting for people already very familiar with its Batman-esk gameplay systems. I hope they have that option in the new one because if we don't I'm not sure how the bigger scope and all these other things are going to matter if I can just roll in and kill everything as easily as I did in the first game.

I thought the first game had solid but derivative gameplay, and fine visuals as well as good sound design, but overall I wasn't impressed with it. It's one of those games that I played through and didn't think much of, then moved on. Forgettable is definitely the incorrect word for it, so I guess unimpressed will have to do. I'm not excited for this, but I'll check it out; it could be good.

Not sure about this. Got excited when Brad mentioned they had blown out the Nemesis System, until I realised what he meant was that there are 5 separate hierarchies instead of 2.

Damn, this looks cool as hell! I'm thinking Talion isn't even necessary in this game, it would be interesting to see them set up the game so that you play multiple generals on different fronts.

I really wish they had done these games in a generic fantasy setting instad of the LotR-universe. This game looks neat but the world they built is too far removed from the tone of the books for my taste. But hey, at least @sloppydetective is getting a kick out of my discomfort concerning this games setting.

I really enjoyed the first game. I'm not a diehard fan of the franchise, so I don't care about the canon/lore implications. I put 40+ hours into the game and DLC because it was just plain fun. I loved the combat and the abilities. I even got all of the collectibles, and did all but one of the weapon challenges which I wasn't able to beat. The final battle was terrible, it was just a weird, confusing QTE.

I liked the Nemesis system in theory, but it wasn't perfect. I didn't get how the game chose my nemesis, and it was really weird seeing him show up like three different times after I killed him again and again. A few other orcs somehow cheated death, too. The first time I saw one that I had killed, he showed up with part of his face covered in metal and I thought, "Oh, that's cool." Then it happened more. I don't care how crazy orc medical science is, I distinctly remembered his head flying through the air. I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure a prosthetic can't help with that.

This...... doesn't even seem like gameplay. That just looked like a bunch of cut scenes like this was Asura's Wrath or something

@itsalita: I believe they did something similar for the first game, the reveal gameplay looked way more cinematic than the finished game.

Looks complicated, kind of been procrastinating starting this game because it seems so involved.
