@choi: The worst thing I saw in that Doom stuff was simply the character design which is horribly generic space marine. I'd honestly have that it was Halo DLC had I not seen it from the beginning as the armor in that looks exactly the same.

Id outsourcing multiplayer? Oh the humanity. DOOM still looks awesome though. There isn't enough of these shooters these days.

I dunno, Doom looks alright. Character design seems dumb, but gameplay looks fast enough.

@sammo21: thing is with doom no one is trying to do that sort of balls to the wall fast paced shooter anymore, so it would be a welcome kind of throwback.

After the Doom deathmatch, he says something which is totally muted, and Will says 'I miss you, Drew' patting him on the shoulder.

Will is probably my least favorite of the usual UPF guests.

Did they mute something @drewbert said at 42:00? He moves his lips, and Will reacts, but we hear nothing. Did we have another Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet F-bomb thrown out, and @unastrike had to mute it? Or was it just a weird isolated microphone failing?

This was a great UPF! Loved all the games they covered and all the duders were in high spirits. Plus bonus Danny and Will. Good times.

Drew barely even uses "regular" swears so I doubt he'd randomly drop a slur. Also people on the couch would have reacted to it. Also people would have heard it live.

God I have missed having Will on the site. Always a good time when he drops in.

Project CARS is actually the only thing that I realy want to play on VR right now. I really like that game.

Drew may not have sold me on VR, but he definitely sold me on Project Cars. That bit where one of the cars just goes flying was insane.

I would say there are lots more characters inc because Final Fantasy always have that but then FFXIII-2 and Lighting Return proven me wrong.

I just hope they at least do these 4 right.

While that Doom multi did seem pretty Halo-ish, does it really make sense to be massively annoyed by every detail that isn't exactly like old Doom? Games need to change at least somewhat, right?

Why use an old franchise if you are not going to keep the old gameplay? From that multiplayer alone it seems they used the DOOM name for nothing more than hype rather than giving people what they loved. Let's just prey they don't do the same for campaign.

Yeah, and when it changes into something we are already very familiar with it isn't exactly the same as if they had tried something completely new with it.

What are the odds that Doom is even half as good as Doom 2 with the Brutal Doom mod?

Well, what is Doom anyway other than: hell invades on Mars/Earth and you kill them all? Some people think the orginal Doom games are these dark, gritty and slow paced horror shooters. I think (even back in the day) that they are rather fast paced and colourful, like the new one. And Doom 3 (which is now 12 years old already mind you) was actually kinda like a slower paced horror shooter in my opinion. So you already got variation within the existing games anyway.

I don't mind them changing things up, espcially if the other games are so old that a literal remake will not work anyway in terms of mechanics and sales (look how 'well' all those new 'just like the old days!' arena shooters are doing). And Wolfenstein: The New Order was pretty good right?

DOOM at its core is a maze with keys,doors, you run like a maniac at high speed dodging stuff while using all your weapons in the right situations and blast so many demons you cannot miss them. You are completely right with them being colorful, all demons got their own color like for instance the giant red blob known as cacodemon.

That is what i think when i hear the name DOOM.

Wolfenstein and the newest Shadow warrior are probably the closest to those except for the level design which went insanely backwards in the last 20 years.

@assirra: The maze like level design is something that indeed at least defined parts of Doom (although especially Doom 2 kinda watered down to the fuck-you-here-are-some-rooms-filled-with-enemies type of deal). But again, something like that wouldn't appeal anymore today because you would get the I'm-lost-and-it-takes-too-long-to-figure-it-out and backtracking complaints. Doom 3 almost already completely abandoned it (as did most of the shooters after Half-Life).

Some clever mazelike leveldesign would be interesting to see in a newer shooter, but I guess it will be in a smaller project since the big guns kinda play it safe. Hell, even the new DOOM was pretty much Call of Duty at one point before they changed it to what it is now.

I have enjoyed my share of final fantasy in the past.

man...does this FF "demo" makes me not want to play whatever the next FF game is.
