1. Make a continuous murmuring noise

I'm assuming they named it that based on the low rumble of 2600 sounds that it used, but the truth is anyone's guess.

The Rift is awesome.

Couple of notes on it:

• I'm getting 1-to-1 data from the sensors. So if a game isn't using it to view 1-to-1 head tracking that's just how they decided to use the head tracking data in the game.
• The rift has magnetometers built in but right now they're just used to reduce head tracking angular orientation errors. They could be used to track head translation movement - if you don't move to far and don't mind maybe a little drift. Local magnetic fields can mess with it. Probably fine for just sitting down and moving your head back & forth w/ auto-re-zero head position.
• you have to render the scene twice to get good stereoscopic effect - same as all other stereoscopic 3D. Costly but with new machines not a show-stopper anymore.
• The distortion all happens as a post-processing effect. Pretty much like any other full screen post processing - blur, DoF, etc. Not a big deal, not very costly on modern GPUs.

I can definitely imagine a world in which the Rift plugs into a PS4 or Xbox One. It's just orientation sensor data over USB and video out over standard video plugs. Nothing exotic. It could get support on game-by-game basis. The new systems should have more than enough power to support awesome Rift games.

So. Half my life ago in middle school, I played a song for Solo and Ensemble, a solo with piano accompaniment, on my bass clarinet. The song I played was the song that is in the menu of the dream gear whatever and it's driving me nuts that I can't remember the name. Pretty sure given some fiddling around with an instrument I could play some.

Occulus Rift looks awesome, like a peek into the future or something. I'm long-sighted, not short, so hopefully there'll be lenses for that too.

Can't wait for the consumer release!

Fuck, I didn't even consider horror games with a Rift yet. There'll be so many more deaths from heart attacks..

lmfao, arguing about ipads being superior to anroid = hipster argument. Whoever made this game needs to learn how to make the sound of a footstep that doesn't make me want to turn the stream off. I almost stopped watching this week's UPF because of the annoying sound of the footsteps in that "scary" game.

So I've been crossing my eyes then focusing at the middle of the screen during the Occulus Rift segments later on, and I wonder if that's roughly what they're seeing?

I enjoyed how apart from Patrick they were all so completely bored by I'm Scared. Reminded me of times when I'd bring a game that I liked to show my friends and they'd all hate it

101 in 1 made for hilarity, and the Oculus Rift continues to look amazing.

This is the best UPF so far! The music for Lunation sounds like a butchered version of the world 1-1 theme from Athena for the NES.

But those are both mainstream products. The iPad even more so than the Android, so if anything, wouldn't hipsters go with Android? Or is that still less exclusive because of price and stuff, so hipsters side with Apple...? I don't know how these things work anymore!

My ideal of a hipster doesn't even have a cell phone, he has a rotary phone at home and doesn't even use payphones if they have buttons.
