@karspankey: Cool. Was sorta worried because the original Xbox discs are kinda weird. so was hoping the blu ray reader in the Xbox One wouldn't get messed up by them. Surprisingly I have a lot of these original Xbox games that are supported. I did buy Morrowind and Mercenaries though.

@ravensword: my understanding is that it only checks the disc, the game itself downloads and installs and runs completely off the Hard Drive.

@ottoman673: huh, thats interesting. Yeah, I can't seem to recall the drive going off when playing those games. I assume 360 titles are like that as well on it?

yeah...I think it is cool that there is backwards compatibility but many of those games are awful. Doubt it will make me use my Xbox One as anything more than what it has been since day one: the one system that only plays the master chief collection once or twice a year. Cool they are doing it but original Xbox, outside like 4 or 5 games, is a terrible system in my opinion.

Yes that ps2 kingsfield game seems awesome. Go for it Rorie!

I only have a pal ps2 and the pal version is VERY badly translated to the point of actually being incoherent from what i've heard so I have yet to own a copy, the ntsc version is apparently fine.

I've played through half of shadow tower earlier this year, had a lot of fun with it, its stunning how much similarities there are between from software games, even those rougher ones from the psx era.

Weird to hear both Dan and Rorie bring up the SF CBS quiet room on the same day in different pieces of content with no actual tie between the two. Especially as (I think?) they've never mentioned it before now.

I really want a Breakdown remaster/re-imagining. It's on the brink of being something amazing. I'd love to see it refined with graphics that match or surpass the CG trailers.

The game does get genuinely frustratingly difficult later on as it has a few sections where it throws 4-5 enemies at you. I remember after release one of the developers mentioned that they had continued to refine the combat system and had made some great advancements. I can't remember specifics now but it's a shame a follow-up never happened for this stuff to be surfaced.

The gadget that Jeff brings up at around 1:50:00 has a ton of SFX that are from—or are very similar to the ones in 3D Pinball Space Cadet.

@ravensword: Yep! The Blu-ray drives in both consoles have such low read speeds that trying to play those games off the disc would cause damage.

I played the Maximo games when they came out, and remember enjoying them despite their difficulty. Pretty sure I still have both my copies. Watching Jason play, it still actually looks like a fun time (despite the camera controls of the era). Would probably dig out my PS2 if I didn't already have a glut of good games that I'm in the middle of :)

My band made over 10 albums, a very good percentage created on the Korg Gadget (iOS). So cool to see it come to Switch. It's a really great product and more flexible than you might think.

Man I LOVE Maximo, both of them. They´re (rough but) great games! I think the first one was originally going to be a N64 game, which is partly why it looks like it does. The sequel was a noticeable upgrade in that department.

It really does not explain shit though, like how your upgrades have 3 "locked" slots and any upgrade which you haven´t moved into one of those gets lost upon death, or how the pool in the hubworld is where you pay Koins to save. When I first played it I didn´t know how to activate the checkpoints for quite a bit. Digging through the manual was a requirement.

In contrast, Maximo vs Army of Zin is a bit friendlier. You don´t lose your skills upon death and your shield doesn´t have limited durability, among other things. It instead focuses more on expanding the combat.

I´m probably pretty alone in wanting to watch them play more of it, but I´m going to put it out there anyway.

DRIVTHREER had plenty of issues, but it was fun to drive around like an asshole in, happen upon ridiculous bugs, stupid AI, physics, and edit replays containing all of the above. If you didn't manage to find this partially ironic angle on it, it's probably not very good.

The most bored I've ever seen Michael Madsen was in Uwe Boll's BloodRayne. He was almost as bored but more drunk than I was. Ben Kingsley was also in it because he wanted to be a vampire. And Meat Loaf, because why not. Michelle Rodriguez was also in it.

Have Michael Madsen and Mads Mikkelsen been in anything together?

Man, Breakdown is such a weird game. It doesn't some really cool stuff, but also gets painfully difficult at late stages of the game. It's also got a really bonkers plot involving *gasp* time travel.

If you do play it, you will want to throw your controller due to the stupidly difficult fights and awful first person platforming, but it's still a game I remember way more fondly than I should.

That Star Destroyer moment in the first Force Unleased is one of the absolutely least cool moments in gaming history. They colossally fucked it up in a way that's difficult to comprehend. The directions on-screen are literally actually wrong.

The switch version of gadget may be limited, however it contains alot of extra content that costs quit a bit on the ios/mac versions like the kamata wavetable synth, so its still a great deal for the price.

I would still reccomend it on ios if you are interested in actually using it for music production

Breakdown is so fucking cool. It just goes for it. I wish it wasn't so hard. If it were just a tad bit easier it would be a perfect Breaking Brad. But if Brad is getting frustrated with 1v1 fights, he'll get wrecked later and just quit.

Korg Gadget has been on iPad for few years now. It has more features including mic/instrument recording, midi input, output and sync, import and export of songs and samples for the sampler and drum machines and is a really impressive portable DAW. You can sync it to the Korg Volca range and keyboards and really any midi equipment. I think @jeff would have some fun with it unhampered by the Switch limitations.

King's Field are sequels to Ultima Underworld (so they're more 90s PC-ass games).

@rorie From Software also did Eternal Ring on PS2 - a slightly modernized King's Field-esque game. Still clunky, but pretty cool.

Also the built-in demo on my Yamaha SHS-10 is WHAM!'s 'Last Christmas'.

I recently bought Kings Field 3 and have been having a good time with it. The controls are a bit clunky and it moves a little slow but there is something to it that keeps me going back to it. I think I have almost 10 hours in it at this point.

@box3ru13: the problem is he refuses to use the block which is VERY important for avoiding the wake-up shoulder tackle moves the T'lan use after a knock down. He has a 0% chance to get through the game at a reasonable pace if he decides blocking isn't required.

I used PCSX2 somewhat recently to play games because my PS2 is close to broken but it caused slowdown when accessing the disc, I think it pretty much requires ripping the discs to ISO for performance reasons.
