I watched a playthrough of Murder House and it was super cool. Not my kind of game, but a very fun watch.

Regarding the Back 4 Blood talk: I don't think cards are as big a deal with the jump from recruit to veteran as people might think. You probably don't want to go straight into it with a starter deck unless you're the kind to level 1 run Dark Souls but after one completion of recruit I was ready for it. That said, I don't think it eases you into the next difficulty as well as Vermintide does.

The big thing that catches people off guard is the pacing switch and perhaps friendly fire. It's almost two different kinds of game, recruit is a run and gun breakneck speed sort of thing and veteran is a lot slower and tenser. Also, on veteran you definitely want to be keeping in mind what weapons the team is running so you don't have too many people relying on one ammo type. Ammo pouches and especially defibrillators that don't see much play on recruit become valuable.

Some of the later cards can tip the scales in your favour a bit but it also becomes more about specialising because many of the more potent cards have drawbacks. Playing matchmade games I've found that my doctor deck is pretty useful because even though I'm trading away potential damage, most people seem to want to kill loads of stuff so the overall drop in team damage isn't much and the increase in team healing is definitely worthwhile on the higher difficulties.

Look, I get it, I'm old. Clearly Ubisoft doesn't give two fucks about marketing the game to someone like me. But I would really love to know if the "kids" actually like that stuff, or if it's more a case of them not finding it completely and utterly insufferable, so while it might not necessarily be a strong selling point it doesn't actively turn them off either?

So many games trying to be like SSX, and yet EA won't take the hint and make another one. These developers and how out of touch they are with gamers.

That barebones turn based RPG looks interesting, but I can see it get Phantasy Star II kind of hard very quickly. Think I'll pass, and PSII is a great classic JRPG. Just don't have the patience for that kind of hard in most cases.

Is the audio a little out of sync or am I just going bananas?

The N64/PS1 graphic scheme is perfect for horror and surreal games. Even when it was the cutting edge of technology, there was always something bizarre and unnerving about seeing blocky faces and textures, big open rooms with nothing in them, and rigid movement. Murder House looks like it's capitalizing on this big time.

Dungeon Encounters has been ticking every box for me, you can definitely tell it is directed by Hiroyuki Ito. It is bare bones in a lot of ways, but mechanically rich and interesting on the gameplay side. You really want to be exploring all the floors as best you can, you get a lot of important, game changing abilities and also need the AP from charting floors to be able to equip them. There are a lot of ideas in this I would love to see in bigger Square RPGs going forward. I’ve made it to floor 33 (or thereabouts) and am having a great time. Oh FYI, this was mentioned in the video, but this is not a roguelike in any sense as far as I can tell, don’t want people to get the wrong idea.

Anyone know why I can't cast (Android/Google) the videos anymore? They always had an icon to press that would cast them but now it's gone. I open it in a Chrome browser on a computer now and cast that to the TV. But there has to be a better way from the phone. Not sure what happened. @rorie

Murder House never got a fair chance. If you don`t get the appeal of low-fi, indie horror, that`s totally fine, but dismissing it outright is just lame. It is probably not the right game to play with a room full of people talking shit.

@rorie As someone who bought FF14 on sale on the PS5, expected it to have it on PC too, then realized the Steam and regular FF14 launchers are separate ecosystem also...the FF14 stuff is kind of a mess. I even had a previous 30-day PC account way back in the day so straightening that out on Mogstation was a chore as well. Anyway, it sounded like you cut boozing in UPF. From what I understand, when you drink it initially raises your blood sugar, hence the sugar cravings. Not sure if this is true, but I currently have to stop drinking for 3 months (doctor's orders) and I'm about 3 weeks in. I was getting intense sugar cravings as well. I make Sugar Free Jello on the regular now and it's been satiating my sugar tooth. Hardly any calories and it fills you up. Getting old sucks.
