We've got a boss rush to get through and then Dracula will just give up... right?
VinnyVania: Dracula's Curse: Part 03
7 Seasons •
Vinny Caravella takes on the challenge of playing through each of the Castlevania games. It's always Belmont O'Clock somewhere!

Alex as a vampire. Hmm.
DAAAMN VINNY VANIA ONCE A MOTHA FUCKIN'GAIN
VinnyVania is the BEST.
I can feel the pain and agony of a thousand deaths coming through that thumbnail.
I really don't mind them being stuck on this level for a good long time, because Aquarius, in any of its forms, is the best video game music in existence <3 <3 <3

Gotta love that Grim Reaper surprise. Even I'd forgotten about that part, and he was so close to beating it despite the fact he was caught off guard.

@tgjessie: C'mon don't be crazy. Bloody Tears, baby.

@austin_walker The ff7 boss that you can one shot with a healing item (I think it works best with either an x-potion or a phoenix down) was called Gi Nattak.
I think you mean Barkerville.
@heatdrive88: Well, sure, Bloody Tears is one of my favourites too, as is Vampire Killer, and... hell, lots of Castlevania's various songs are damn great. It's got the most consistently fantastic soundtracks of any series.
But... Aquarius. Especially Circle of the Moon's rendition...
This episode finally showed off why Sypha is the best companion! :D
@tgjessie: Yeah, no, Aquarius is way underrated. Like so many other songs that aren't Bloody Tears or Vampire Killer. Beginning, Clock Tower, Riddle, An Empty Tome, After Confession, etc.
They should definitely play Rondo of Blood after Super Castlevania IV.
After that? You could dive in to Castlevania Bloodlines on the Genesis. I never did beat that one.
Then there's Dracula X on the SNES. It's not a bad game, really, but it follows the same storyline as Rondo of Blood with mostly different levels. I don't think anyone would blame you if you skipped that one.

@vinny The whip upgrades are heart based. If you have 5 hearts you get the first one and the next one drops once you have 8 hearts.
You can also one shot the last boss of FFX with a phoenix down.
You magnificent bastards make my day! You are a living puppy tumblr.
Yeah fuck the falling blocks level. I started replaying this and I'm on that level.

What kind of question is "Does Ferris Bueller hold up?" It is just fun and awesome.
You definitely are not wrong.
Ughhh I love this feature. All the nail-biting moments and strategizing.
The potential Castlevanias to play in the future, as far as the linear ones go:
[Insert Dracula x Konami Working Conditions Joke Here]
Some great moments in this, but maaan, I wish they've would just tried to beat the boss for a few more attempts...oh well, hopefully we'll get to Super Castlevania in part 6!
Dracula is such a dick.
I looked up a speed run for this game, and I have to say, I will be very surprised if this dosnt take at least 8-9 episodes
Ughhh I love this feature. All the nail-biting moments and strategizing.
I always forget about the N64 games. I think it'd be pretty interesting to see them give it a shot. Probably just Legacy of Darkness, though.
I actually prefer the non-arranged mode of Castlevania Chronicles. They also have a cheat code that lets you choose which sound card to emulate, so you basically have 4 different arrangements of the game's soundtrack. I always thought that was a neat feature.
For some reason, I always thought Bloodlines was a game made by the people who went on to form Treasure, but I see now that can't be right because it came out a year after Gunstar Heroes.

Sweet, yeah. Aquarius is my favorite Castlevania tune as well..
I remember there being bosses in both FF8 and FF9 that you could one-shot with a phoenix down or a revive spell.
@paulunga:Don't forget Wicked Child and Sinking Old Sanctuary.
@jacksukeru: The one in FF8 was the second form of the fake president on the train. I'm not too sure about 9 since I haven't played it in forever (and even then I didn't get too far in it).

They can't not play Bloodlines, right? It's one of my favourite Castlevania games (hell, one of my favourite games, period) partly because it's such a weird beast. It's like it fell through a portal from an alternate dimension, with its is-it-or-isn't-it-canon storyline and weapons.
A lot of my love for it is down to the multitude of programming tricks the team employed to make one of the more impressive looking and interesting Mega Drive / Genesis titles. It's no Alien Soldier or Ranger X, but it still manages to pull some SAY WHUUUUUT stunts with the hardware.
We're all in agreement that this is the definitive version of that jam, though, yeah?
When will the beast crew have their own "Unprofessional Fridays"?
@buzz_clik: I was always super jealous of people that had a Genesis or Turbo Grafx growing up, because I never got to play Bloodlines or the proper Rondo of Blood, respectively. I mean I can't complain too much - Super Castlevania 4 was awesome, but I remember seeing the other 2 games in magazines and just being in awe of how they looked.
Also, holy shit, that mix of Bloody Tears. Holy shit.
austin with the n-bomb at 13:27 lol
He could be hitting those Stone Pillars much more rapidly than he is. Trevor is not as slow on the whip as he seems.
This episode was a bit shorter, I bet Vinny could've had that boss in a couple more goes.

I wonder why they were so very sure that that was the last level of the game, since Vinny hadn't even reached the castle yet, but okay. At least it was funny to see their reaction when they figured it out.
Also I agree that Castlevania has pretty much the most consistently awesome soundtrack ever.
This episode made me feel more frustrated than normal, I think. Maybe it was cause we were in that damn level for so long, and those fucking skeleton pillar heads. And all the staircase hesitation leading to a relatively cheeseable boss fight.
It was a devilish mixture of cheap and stupid. Constantly respawning bulletsponge enemies.
Nosferasist .... HA!
It`s a nice tune, but i have a soft spot for this version:

As someone who hasn't played the Castlevania games, this is so fun to watch. Looking forward to the 16-bit games to see where this series goes!
That synched barbershop trio "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" near the end is too good.

This was another great episode.
Hmm, I love Bloodlines, personally. It's super fun and I think Vinny would appreciate things like being able to consistently use sub-weapons on stairs and even being able to jump onto stairs! Also the music is super dope—the first Castlevania game that Michiru Yamane of SotN fame composed!
Woe is me, go go Vinny!
Which acappella version of the theme is it Vinny is using for the live versions of these?
