Listening to it for a second time, and yep, Alex said he wanted to fuck a dracula.

Level 9 is definitely really tough, but Morbid Mountain, Level 7 on the hard route, is debatably even harder. Anyone who has ever played that level can agree with this: fuck tetris tower.

Also, don't feel bad, Vinny. This is the hardest out of all the castlevania games, so it's all easygoing from here on out.

And since Level 9's music is still in our heads...

I'm at 22 minutes and getting pretty worried that the header image isn't from the next area.

Yeah, that last level has the worst music in the game. It really stands out in a game series known for awesome music. Hopefully Vinny completes it next time, but I don't know. Dracula is pretty tough in this one, plus the game doesn't checkpoint you right before him and when you die, you start at the same checkpoint Vinny made it to at the end of this video.

It's pretty rough.

I'm sorry but 'pick up the purse' will never not be funny to me, if only because of the dismissive nature Vinny responds to it now.

I find it hilarious that the long running premium series GB does are MGS and Castlevania, which are both Konami franchises.

I just watched a Speedrun of this when they talked about it and apparently they play the japanese version which is a lot easier.

Oh man they skipped that? Yeah fuck that level, it's awful.

It's all because they're playing the inferior US release. I actually sent @alex the message about fire killing the skulls in 2 hits, but I was thinking of the Japanese version. In the US version it's 3 hits.

Turns out they made the game a lot harder for the US. You do less damage, and there's less/worse checkpoints. In the Japanese version, you *do* get checkpointed right before Dracula.

And most importantly of all, the music's way better. Here's what that stage sounds like on Famicom:

I mean, it's hardly one of Castlevania's greatest, but it's certainly more palatable than the NES version.

@spitz1000: No kidding, I'd never have the patience to slog through this game without savestates. On the plus side, once he gets through this Vinny will probably wreck Castlevania IV.

On the plus side after this is when the CastleVanias are supposed to get easier. Just have to make it through this last level.

I think Vinny will blow through that last stage pretty fast next time, it's really not that tough. Especially not after he finally made it through the nightmare stage.

No arguments there! I've been aware of those differences for a while. I still remember the first time I heard the Japanese soundtrack in the late 1990s and was pretty surprised at how much better it sounded. I have to admit that I do like the American soundtrack version too, though. Can't say I enjoy either version of "Pressure," of course.

I'm guessing Vinny will opt for the American release of any Castlevania game since the feature is mostly about him playing through the versions he played when he was younger.

I'm hoping he chooses to play Rondo of Blood, preferably the one available on Wii VC.

Wasn't the story behind that that him and Jeff were going to a fancy "art party" at a mansion in Napa Valley, where all the guests were asked to bring a picture they painted or an instrument to play a song they wrote or whatever? And the art that they brought was a "performance art" act, demonstrating Edward 40-Hands for all that fancy art folks? Either that story was told on one of the Bombcasts a few years ago, or it's something I just imagined because it happens to SOUND like something Jeff and Alex would do.

I'm so glad they made it past that level. It was so brutal. Getting closer to the end!

I wonder if they'll play Dracula X for SNES after playing Super Castlevania IV. I kinda want to see Vinny give the final battle in X a shot.

Someone should probably tell Vinny that once you've upgraded to Windows 10 your hardware's hash key is sent to Microsoft at which point you can install 10 forever without a key on that machine provided the hardware config is the same between installs.
