When I started playing guitar 15 years ago, that clock tower jam was the peak of music for me. Learning that solo was probably the best feeling I've ever had playing something.

Weird! The royalty free music played at the start on the stream isn't on the archive! Not the pre-show stuff, where they're listening to it and talking about it.

@nmckee503: Yeah, it makes them seem insane(r) for the first minute or two.

"Find blue doors" was a good hint, because at the end of the episode 1 they bought the Jewel of Open which unlocks blue doors.

I've been thinking about going back and playing this again. One of my favorite games.

As someone who's never played any castlevania games, having been a primarily PC gamer, this series has been a real education. I'm enjoying this one, but the thing that's striking me most is how easy this game seems in comparison to all the previous titles. It's clearly non-trivial, but it's also not "spend two hours on one level / boss" hard, either.

Gargoyle skulls falling down the stairs is real good though, I can see why people liked this game.

Jeeze, Alex continues to be stunningly on point with the music references.

I'm not a huge Dan advocate, but it's telling that the episode he's not here, Alex and Vinny not only die a ton, but the chat gives them both erroneous advice and cheats (Soul Steal), which they said they didn't want in the last episode.

@cooljammer00: I'm way more glad to see Vinny have a wider set of options and abilities then trying to preserve some fictitious 'purity' of a run. Like twisted metal 2, there's a bar limitation built in. It's certainly nothing like "cheating." Chat help is a good compromise between a blind run and just pulling up gamefaqs.

He certainly doesn't have time to just wail on the controller, and the run is better for it.

@chekhonte: because the others were linear. Maybe it's because he's easily distracted or because he has a terrible sense of direction, but Vinny tends to get lost and/or distracted when it get more complicated thatn 'just continue to go right'. See also the Shenmue endurance run, where he manages to constantly get lost in a tiny town that consists of a single street (one street!) with a few side-alleys. It makes for hilarious footage though

I wonder if Vinny will figure out jump cancelling attacks

I really hope they do the inverted castle but I don't know if Vinny will find the items they need.

I replayed SOTN not too long ago, and the area with the black birds is definitely one of the lowest points of the game just because there is so much to re-do if you mess up and die (which is kind of a punishment in itself since the game over/restart process does take a bit of time) between save points. At least the boss isn't too tough once you get the pattern down, so it's not totally bad.

@camwil: It's because Vinny is colourblind, he literally can't see the difference because it's just a different colour. They mention that in the video.

Especially going into it already aware that none of the other equipment changes your look (e.g. Alucard is never wearing a hat or sunglasses), it's extremely easy to overlook different capes having different colors even if you're not colorblind. It's not like the in-game cape looks anything like what's represented in the inventory screen; it's just a fucking palette swap. I know it must be tormentingly difficult to resist telling someone who's colorblind that you're better than him at seeing changes in colors, though.

That middle aged ladies using Snapchat story rings true to me in some way, my mother is constantly asking for help using:
1. Her smart phone - I don't have a smart phone
2. Facebook - I don't use Facebook
and
3. Twitter - I don't use Twitter.
So figuring all that out was a lot of fun for me (-_-).
All her friends use those things too, i guess the late fifties-sixties generation were just social in a way which fits with modern social apps.

Love this playthrough.

SOTN really has a lot of weirdness to it, I think Dark Metamorphosis is a perfect example: Triggers whenever you hit something and that causes a blood splat animation. Not on hit, not on kill, on blood splats. That's the kind of weirdness I'd expect from a C64 game...

Or of course that confessional room, is there any use for it at all?

See, pixel art can be gorgeous. It just takes as much skill and diligence as other graphical styles.

I wish I was in the chat for this, they missed some breakable walls in the Alchemy lab.

Man, it's brutal how they miss the SUPER OBVIOUS SHIT! I swear they do it on purpose now just to annoy us. I swear! Like the Chinese Market in Shenmue, DEAD MIDDLE of screen, nope not here.

The box in this video with the spikes... Like that was meant to be found on the first run... That was the 2nd pass for them. And the stairs where the floating sword thing is, like IT'S RIGHT THERE! The cape... Colorblindness isn't an excuse, fucking ALEX is there!

Argh and his stabby knife obsession... I can't take it anymore. lol

I tried using snapchat for a while, because y'know, it's supposedly my generation's* main social interaction and such, but... It's a really terribly designed app. Confusing in visual language, and it has two pages of paid content ads (both of which try to pretend to not be ads), and just really frustrating to use. And then I looked into it's development history and holy shit, the creators of that thing are truly garbage human beings. I removed it shortly after.

*I'm a 26 year old millennial.

@arzen353: I've never played one either, and after the first episode I decided to do my own run while waiting for this one. And this game is laughably easy for the most part. The only area where I really had any trouble was the Colosseum, which they haven't hit yet.

Right now I'm just grinding out the game's ultimate weapon before fighting Dracula, but I've done everything else at this point.
