VRodeo: 11: Shooty Fruity, Echo Arena, and More

Nice. Thought this was gone.

Yay, more Vrodeo! I pulled my Rift back out a few weeks ago and I've been having such a blast. The library keeps growing and the experiences keep getting better!

The only rodeo I can actually stand and I live in Montana. Full disclosure haven't been to a rodeo in 25 or so years but too loud and rowdy for my taste.

Please for god's sake would you buy some extra sets of face foam for your Vive? You can get replacement sets on Amazon or direct from HTC, they can be peeled off and replaced in the space of 10 seconds, then rinse the old one out and let it dry.

I'll pay for it myself if I have to, just don't put Abby in that swamp again next year!

Always tough to watch a segment when they don't know the controls, but I was at least glad they didn't seem to write it off completely based on some of their frustrations. I would love to hear Jeff thinks about Lone Echo / Echo Arena if he decides to spend some more time with it.

Echo Arena is much faster paced than he made it look. Once you learn the movement getting to the tubes and waiting for the catapault takes about 5 seconds. The catapults can be a little finicky, but you need to fling yourself while it is launching you. There is no need to wait until it's at the end of the tube because you keep the same momentum once you push off. You just need to be sure not to hit the tube walls.

Another solid move is to grab on to other players and flinging yourself off them to get an extra boost of speed. If punch an enemy player while hitching a ride you will lose the ability to get that extra boost of speed since they lost all their momentum. So if you are trying to cover large distances it's best to just use them (or teammates) to fling yourself across the map, but watch your back because people are trying to do the same to you.

nice to finally see you guys show echo arena. the one thing I wish they would change is that the tutorial makes it seem like the wrist thrusters run out, they do, but only in the single player Lone Echo portion. The boost done by pushing the left stick propels you in the direction you are looking not where your hands are pointed. Since you were lvl 1 the match making kept most/all the player levels low so even the "high" lvl of 12 which I think once of the opposing players was, was still not all that experienced. bookoo327 covered the rest of it pretty well, but I would like to reiterate that getting to the launch ring is trivial once you're used to the controls. Once you're used to maneuvering you should be able to get to the ring with ~5 seconds left.

Brad should check out House of the Dying Sun in VR if he wants a Tie Fighter like experience. It's a pretty straight-forward semi-linear space sim shooter with neat wingman mechanics. It reminds me a lot of the feeling of playing the old X-Wing/Tie Fighter games. If I wasn't already so engrossed into Elite Dangerous when wanting to sit in a VR space cockpit I definitely would have played more of it.

We've bought some of those VR Covers for our headsets. They are really nice and comfortable. Some of them are even machine washable.

for Fallout 4 make sure you don't have the beta branch of steam VR. there was definitely problems with rift compatibility other than that make sure it's updated. /FO4VR for pinned threads on getting everything running well & with mods if you want.

Also, Vajazzercise is right, VRChat is getting all kinds of ridiculous at this point. Well worth checking out if you want to see the legacy of PS Home live on.

Once you get really good at Echo Arena it speeds up a lot. I'm in good shape but i always leave a play session covered in sweat. One thing Jeff missed was as well as those catapult boost rings what you want to do is have the guy in the lead hold the ring, while you hold on to his legs, then when he boosts forward at his maximum speed you use their momentum to push forward more and gain crazy speed. That's how the other team kept getting breakaways and scoring so fast.

Also i can not believe how awesome Fallout 4 VR is. I wasn't a big fan of the game when i got the standard version but all the systems driven changes they made and the way npc's interact with each other just feels more natural in VR.

Man I really want Jeff to check out that VR battle royale game.

How 'bout some 3 or 4-man RecRoom dungeons? They've got Jeff's Rift, the studio's Vive, and at least one PSVR somewhere?

Konami really needs to put out a VR version of Police 911.

They already did a while ago.

Looking forward to the next PSVR vrodeo. Not that much interested in neither occulus or vive as they just take too much space to be feasible.

Yes! Finally the return of VRodeo! GBWest does my favorite premium features, I'm glad to see them finally coming back after so long.

Wow that last game really took some influences from Pacific Rim huh?

Obviously it's not him, but the AI/computer voice in the last game sounds a lot like Mark Cerny, I just imagined him in cyberspace talking to Jeff through VR!
