Huh, Hotel California or Beat It have never been in Rock Band? That’s a little crazy to me.

I had almost forgotten how ugly this game was visually. Makes me appreciate Rock Band that much more than I already did.

Activision signed a LOT of exclusivity deals with bands around this time period. Michael Jackson and the Eagles were among those artists that only appeared in GH. They also spent an amount of money that Harmonix couldn't dare spend to license them now that those deals are (probably) dead.

The real Dark Souls starts at 03:21:20.

@corporalgregg: I was the opposite. Went from this guitar hero game to one of the rockband games and absolutely hated it. Couldn't stand the rockband lay out. Now I miss both games though.

Yeah. Neversoft/VV did a hell of a job replicating what Harmonix did but it never felt quite right. And it looked butt-ugly.

Regarding Prince, he was one of a few prominent guitarists who preferred people instead learnt to play real guitar. To be fair to him, he was lot nicer about it than some others I could mention.

I wasn't a fan of Neversoft's art direction either (and HATED the inclusion of Kurt Cobain and other deceased musicians), but I did appreciate the moments of unique animation they'd put in some songs. The moonwalk in Beat It, for instance, and the music video choreography for Bohemian Rhapsody.

Oh, sad that I missed seeing Alex play a Kent song live!

As somebody who never got into any plastic instrument series of games, I've been noticing each week how much I really dig the character designs and animation work. And I thought this GH game looked reasonably on par - the one complaint I had was the font used for the song and artist name when displayed.. I could barely read it half the time.

As someone who got WAY more into GH then Rock Band (really just for the reason that the GH drums actually had cymbals) I really appreciated this stream. Also hope that Alex's ratings system makes another appearance at some point.

why would they get that version of Pretty Vacant instead of the one on the album :/ . oh well

I don't listen to tool very much anymore, but those are still fun songs

Also, I’ve always thought having Soul Doubt was a great phrase to describe having an existential crisis in your life (even though, yes, it’s most likely just a pun on ‘Sold Out’).

I am in full support of Alex's Mars Volta/At the Drive-In requests, they seem like no-brainers.

I love the idea that the Tool songs needed their own background thingy, but the tech or the art direction was really, really not in place to make that work in an interesting or visually appealing way. Yikes.
