As a Coldplay apologist, some of their best music (Mylo Xyloto, some of their latest album) has come out in the past decade, too.

But Hymn for the Weekend (along with the rest of that album) is hot fucking garbage.

Oh dear. Someone please check on Alex, I think he might be sick after all this.

(I will still kinda say that Offspring song is a fun, if incredibly stupid time)

Also, what was that thing @alex mentioned about Panic At The Disco? Am I hearing it right that he said... they worked for a company that fixed bread prices? Surely I heard something wrong here, hahaha.

Alex talks up, introduces, and then launches into these songs as though he's pulling a lever and dropping his audience down a trapdoor.

@heatdrive88: I had to Google this and it turns out that Pete Buttigieg, who was running for the Democrat presidential primary, was using the song "High Hopes" during his campaign. Buttigieg used to work for a company that was involved in a scandal that involved increasing the price of bread in Canada.

I like some of these songs, but then I like almost every song that is even remotely "sing along able too". So, depending on where you place some of these songs on that list, gets you an idea of just how broad my personal tastes are.

I have a soft spot for Drops of Jupiter too, but I do agree that it's not a great song. This was a fun stream!

My biggest surprise is that Alex likes some Fallout Boy songs, I thought he would absolutely despise that band.

I’m really glad I was able to attend live this time. It was tons of fun seeing chat explode in reaction to the beginning of each song. Great stream as always, Alex!

I don’t think any of these songs are in RB, but here are five I consider to be among the worst of all time:

“Architecture of Disaster” by Warcloud (aka Holocaust)

“Chloe” by The Singing Sisters of Syracuse

“Bus Driver” by Cowboy Troy

“Why Doesn’t Daddy Come Home?” by The Lundstroms

“Trying to Conceive” by Peter Scott (actually, that entire album is worthy)

Baffles me that there are a large number of people that love that Disturbed cover of "Sound of Silence". The last verse in particular is just painful to listen to.

@knifesquid: All of which was done before Buttigieg was an employee, and which were decisions being made by people way above his paygrade, and which he himself is troubled by. He worked there for a staggering 2 years not long after he graduated college. But I guess people just gotta shit on him for some reason... Kind of expect the GB crew to not fall for that kind of propaganda, but I guess it's really fucking pervasive in certain political circles.

@goodeyeclosed: I made a free association between an (awful) song used by the Buttigieg campaign, and a widely shared meme from a New York Times interview. I am by no means a Buttigieg fan, but I am also not actually accusing him of having involved himself in a price fixing scandal. Just referencing two things in my brain I associate him and his campaign with.

@alex: Good to know. Sorry I jumped to conclusions. I was a Warren fan, but I was just really dismayed by the amount of unwarranted BS I saw being flung towards other candidates (including Buttigieg) by supporters of one candidate in particular.

Has anyone noticed charting errors in these songs? For example, in Uma Thurman, it sounds like a few of those snare rolls turn into toms at some point but keep on the same pad. Am I losing my mind?

@depecheload: Netherlands here, I worked at a job where we had the radio on which was cool but throughout the year that song was played what seemed like 4 times in an hour, it almost drove me insane listening to that all day every day.

I'm excited to see you play those Guitar Hero drum charts. Those games are how I learned to play drums, and I had all of them. I really liked having to two cymbals on the fake set, and they just felt better to me than the stock Rock Band drums. If you can get your hands on Guitar Hero Metallica, that's got some excellent charts.

Not only is High Hopes a terrible song, it also name drops/champions a xenophobic expansionist 19th-century policy that resulted in multiple wars and attempted genocide.

@mister_snig: I don’t mind it (anything that has Queen B added to it can’t be too bad), but let’s be honest, Fix You is where they peaked and they’ll never do anything better.

@depecheload: It’s an ok song. I’ll never begrudge a band for selling out, but it’s a shame they’ll never go back to their ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ days.

The only song I can defend on this list is "Thank God For Girls" and I won't really defend it, I'll just say it's on Weezer's best album in a decade(which even then is still just kinda decent and not much more). You can pick any song at random from Weezer's Black Album and it's so, so much worse.

I had to take breaks to get through these songs, I'm sure you understand, Alex. I'm with you, most of these are absolutely terrible. That Disturbed cover was the first I had heard it, and I kinda like it in a weird way. The style reminds me of Manowar, which applied to a Simon and Garfunkel song is batshit crazy.

In regards to Crossfade - Cold, I had a weird bout of nostalgia from that song and felt like I had heard it in a game. So I did a quick internet search and found that it may have appeared in Command and Conquer: Generals. I played a great deal of Generals and Zero Hour so that may explain it. I'm sure there are probably others that may also have the same attachment to that song.

@depecheload: You aren't alone. I used to hate on them for a long time in high school because "I wasn't emo, I was a new waver." It took a bit to stop being a hipster ass and realize it is catchy and a fun hype song.

Holy hell. Can we take a moment to appreciate how that Crooked X song just straight up steals two iconic riffs - Wasted Years by Iron Maiden and NIB by Black Sabbath - in the same song without even trying to hide it. And then adds the reviled snare from St. Anger on top. That's some next level stuff. (I know, I know, 15 year-olds. But someone - ostensibly a grown-up - produced that song.)

I will never be able to separate 'High Hopes' (which is by a band whose music I actually like) from the image of gen-Xers and boomers dancing to it in support of the Buttigieg campaign.

I was stationed in Tennessee when 'Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy' came out, and yeeeeeeeaaah. It was unironically popular with everyone for a while.

I basically abandoned English-language music in 2004 and this video reminded me why. Some of the songs Alex played aren't "musically" bad (some might even be catchy), but the vocal performance and the LYRICS are god awful.

Now I only listen to trash Japanese emo cuz at least no one around me knows what they're singing about. Neither do I, unless I concentrate on it.

I'd have loved a troll pick somewhere in there, but I like the variety regardless.

Honestly, that Big & Rich song is so fuckin' stupid that I kinda respect the hustle. It's like country-ass white folk thought they should do their own style of bumpin party song and... THAT is what they came up with. It's so wack, but it's got a place in my soul (whether I like it or not).

Also, *this* is how we get Beyonce on your drum streams, eh?
