I feel like that swamp alone is more BS than anything in the first game (it's annoying even WITH a guide) and I can't believe they didn't improve the keycard stuff. I'm way into this.

@dr_insane I get that it's different for you, but I couldn't disagree more in this case because of the very specific connection that Dan has to the Metal Gear series. This isn't Vinny playing Contra nor Abbey playing Punch-Out (I do like the Punch-Out series, though). Dan's love of Metal Gear is one of the very first things I learned about him and he's definitely not shy about talking about it on the podcasts.

I have zero nostalgia for these Metal Gear games, but I know about the connection of the series to Dan, and it's his specific reaction to these games that's getting me to watch this series.

(The Zelda series has that similar hook, but in that case I do have nostalgia for that game, and more importantly that has a very specific hook of showing off a mode that does not exist in the actual game. Watching how the random generator affects the game play is pretty interesting for me.)

As for the card keys, there are 3 master keys (Red Blue and Green) that replace 1-3 4-6 7-9.

I'm not sure NATO is still a thing, I need to consult with the president.

Already this is looking like much more of a Metal Gear game than the first game. Still the nonsense with the keycards though, plus that swamp bit.

I'd never heard of Chobham armour, but I live about half an hour's drive from the place it was devised and named after.

I also live near Epsom, after which the salts were named. Neither place is particularly exciting, to be honest.

While the game *is* impressive for 1990, you can't start comparing it to 1990 console games. The MSX was a computer, this is a PC game. In 1990 we saw Prince of Persia, King's Quest V (a talkie), Wing Commander, Monkey Island... That's the correct perspective, not Mario games.

I too thought Dyson was a high quality brand, but my mother works as a home care aid and cleans a lot of client's homes using whatever vacuum the client owns. In her experience the Miele canister vacuums are the best and Dyson is terrible.

This is my first time seeing this game in action, and I'm very impressed how ahead of the times it was. That swamp section looked pretty annoying, though.
