So happy they are doing Ghost Babel.

Can't wait for them to get to the cardboard box puzzles. Also hope they uncover the secret that this is actually Raiden playing through a sim mission though of course to get to that they have to do the VR missions which will never happen (and which, by the way -- that would be an awesome team feature. Try to 100% the VR missions in MGS2 Substance)

Also -- the game is called Metal Gear Solid and Ghost Babel is a really dumb name. It should just be referred to as Metal Gear Solid. Shinta Nojiri (the game's director) confirmed Ghost Babel are two words he more or less pulled out of a hat and have no relation to anything that happens in the game lol.

Super glad it's going well! Text box madlibs is a good time. I left explicit instructions to use the walkthrough right at the start of Mission 5.

The secret ending is revealed after the 40 challenge missions, not the VR missions. The VR missions are dry, but the challenge missions are pretty entertaining.

Find Jimmy the Wizard, and remember, this is a sneaking mission.

I was really hoping they were going all in and just playing Metal Gear Solid 1 again.

Yay! This is the only game I haven't seen in the series, but always heard great things so I'm pretty excited about this.

This was my first metal gear.

But yeah seriously, what's so scary about metal gears? they're huge robot things that stand out like the sorest of thumbs, send out a squadron of A-10s and they'll make short work of the thing, pretty much the most inadequate weapons platform possible.

A nuclear sub is way more scary, moving all stealth like, can stay submerged indefinitely(well, at least for s long as food stores last), and capable of launching effen SLBMs, and the most scary thing is that those actually exist.

@zanzibarbreeze: I'm a little confused. Are you saying it shouldn't be called Ghost Babel because the director thinks they're dumb words, or it shouldn't be called Ghost Babel because it's not the official name?

I'm just saying it's a real dumb name haha, and outside of Japan it was released as Metal Gear Solid so we should just call it that, or Metal Gear for the Game Boy, or whatever. But Ghost Babel is like literally nonsense so why bother with it

Ah I was hoping for Snake's Revenge but this is good too.

Yeah, when I saw there was another Who's the Big Boss, I assumed it was Snake's Revenge, guess I'll have to pop in my copy to sooth the pain. Hopefully they do that after this one.

@zanzibarbreeze: Konami has said Ghost Babel was a subtle way to reference that it was for the Game Boy, but you're right, the name itself is meaningless. In the same way that a lot of DS games had DS subtitles, I.E. Resident Evil Deadly Silence.

I remember hearing some very high praise for this game when it came out, with some even saying it was better than the Playstation game. It'll be nice to get a chance to see if this game got lost to time because it's non-canon, or it's just mediocre.

For an eighteen year old Game Boy Color game, it looks amazing. I think Ghost Babel gets referenced in on one the Colonel Campbell crazy codec calls in MGS 2 aside from the poster in the computer room. I wonder if the color coded hat and pony tail game play mechanic was a mandate from Nintendo to showcase the Game Boy Color hardware. I do wish that Dan would give Peace Walker a try or Metal Gear Acid.

Ghost Babel looks great, it seems a lot less confusing than MG1&2.

MGS ended with Tomokazu Fukushima.

Their concern over Dr. Hole reappearing is always a good laugh.

I mean, Metal Gear Solid is literally nonsense, and it's Metal Gear: GameBoy.

Watching this makes me realize how special those MSX games really were and how average this game is. It's fine. There's nothing wrong with it. But it has none of that charm and surprise of MG2 or even 1. This is like if an American studio made Metal Gear. Might as well be Splinter Cell.

Excellent first episode, you guys were on fire. Hardest I've laughed in a while. Can't wait for more!

GBC game from 18 years ago, the battery holding the save game might be dead, so I wouldn't wanna rely on it...

Surprised people didn't know this, but the Ghost Babel name was chosen in order to get the initials GB, referring of course to the game's appearance on Giant Bomb.

Also, this game seems amazing. A lot like one of the best games of all time Boktai, but without the dumb solar sensor. Some of the music is even extremely similar.

This game seems kind of charmless and boring, while being more mechanically sound, than its Kojima predecessors. Like, there will never be a Dr. Hole in this game, and that's a shame. The dialog isn't as embarrassingly slavish to American action movies, and that's a shame, too. There's less dumb geopolitical intrigue. Still, it's fun to watch Dan be terrible at it.

Also, it should be noted that "Crash Bandicoot" would make for an excellent MGS villain name. Ex-Australian special forces, of course.

Cool to see this, pretty good game for Game Boy Color standards.

I just wish Dan would finally stop playing Snake like he was Rambo.

Speak of portable Metal Gear game, wonder if Ryckert would ever play Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D on camera for Giantbomb.
