Overview
Sigismund of Luxembourg was a Holy Roman Emperor who, among other titles, was the king of Hungary from 1387 until his death in 1437. His father was Charles IV of Luxembourg, who was the king of Bohemia.
Background
After Charles IV's death, the throne of king was inherited by Wenceslaus IV - whose reign as monarch was polarizing to many of Bohemia's inhabitants. Some of those who were unhappy of Wenceslaus IV decided to call for the aide of Sigismund, who decided to violently take over the throne and inherit the title as king of Bohemia by forcing Wenceslaus IV to abdicate.
