The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the second home console released by Nintendo.

Dust off your SNES console. A new game is being released in 2013.

The game is called Nightmare Busters. Here's the article on the new game being released.

    http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/02/new_snes_title_on_the_way_in_2013

According to the developer this will be the first new game released for the platform in the U.S. since 1998. Described as a 'run and gun' title, there has been such demand that not only has the company decided to accept pre-orders, but is also boosting the initial run to 600 copies, double the normal first batch. Citing production costs as a factor, the game will cost $68 dollars for U.S. customers and $75 for the rest of the world.

So what does everyone else have to say about this? I actually wonder if this will start becoming a thing. Because I wouldn't mind seeing new games being released on old consoles. That would be awesome. I also wonder if they'll get the "Nintendo Seal of Approval" as well.

EDIT: I should also mention that SNES games were never cheap to make because of manufacturing costs.

I have to say I am pretty surprised by this. Especially considering the advent of the "virtual console," XBLA, etc. I just don't see the use for creating a cart of a game at point, other than for the "novelty factor." Many people most likely no longer own the hardware at this point (although, I do have my old SNES in a closet somewhere). I would assume the cost of producing the cart would be fairly high.

Unless this is just a stunt to get people to go nuts on an eventual digital version, this makes zero economic sense.

Otherwise, totally awesome idea... I am behind this 100%... and RESURRECT THE DREAMCAST!!! :)

@Shun_Akiyama: The seal was actually renamed to the "official nintendo seal" sometime during the gamecube era.

Oh, it's the Beggar Prince people. I'd like to know more about the game before I think about ordering, but that's neat. Kind of weird that they're sort of apologetic about the pricing, there were actual SNES games that retailed for more than that.

I'm guessing you were born after 1990. There entire point of the game is the novelty factor.

NG:Dev Team is going to be releasing their third Dreamcast game fairly soon.

I'm only superficially familiar with Super Fighter Team, but would this be the first game to be entirely developed by them?

The last official game for the Super Famicom was released near the end of 2000. As a download.

This screenshot was from before the original developer cancelled the game.

Tch. I have had $10 on my Wii for like 2 years now with nothing to buy. Anything good on Wii Ware is too much, and Virtual Console games I own most of them.

This is totally awesome and would like to see it. Hopefully it comes in a regular SNES retail box.

Also the comments on that news story are amazing. People totally not getting that it's pretty much for the novelty of buying a new SNES cart asking for it to be released on VC and getting angry.

    No thanks.

I understand why someone with cash to throw around and memories to relive would want such a thing, but I'll pass. Yes, I get the novelty, yadda yadda, but this is plainly and simply a waste of money and time. It could have been released on Steam for a much cheaper price and the dev could have made far more money and more people could have played it.

The SNES was a great console. That's past tense for a good reason. Many of the games are still worth playing but it is long past time to let the console itself die.
