    Seems like a competent port.

I don't know, man. Going back and playing these old Sega games is breaking my heart. I'm starting to see what Jeff was talking about in the Nights into Dreams Quick Look about the excessive love people had for Sega. Not to say they weren't doing great things--at the time, they were even more innovative than Nintendo--but their games don't hold up in terms of playability. Sonic's awkward levels and controls just disappoint in comparison to a Super Mario 64, and anyone who doesn't see that is still blinded by Sega's charm.

Honestly, a lot of Dreamcast games don't hold up for me. Amazing at the time compared to the Playstation (I'll never forget the first time we played Sonic Adventure). But these days, Typing of the Dead is the only reason I'll hook mine up

I had Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for the Gamecube. Most of the Sonic/Shadow missions were alright until the end of the game, but the Tails/Knucles (and evil counterparts) missions were god-awful. Those timed scavenger hunt missions were the worst.

I've never understood the love for the Sonic Adventure games, or really any 3D Sonic game. They always plays terrible and all of the new characters they added were fucking awful.

Being able to raise Chao was the one part of the game that made me pretty addicted to it. I wonder how that's handled without GBA connectivity, since the full potential of Chao was really only fully realized with the GBA Sonic Advance counterpart Chao Garden...

Oh man I hadn't thought of that. I'll still be buying this, but yeah I guess I won't be getting the full game.

It's a pretty good port. Sad that there isn't online though.

And just throwing it out there I bought the 360 and the Ps3 versions and if you're wondering which version to get go with 360. Better controls and less camera issues.

Pretty much how it was in the original games except you can't transfer them. Plus you have to buy the Battle DLC if you want to do Chao karate and whatnot.

This alone is worth the price of the game.

    @Tobiass: Amazing.

I'm hyped for Halloween after watching that.

And now I'm going to spend my Saturday night listening to the Sonic Adventure 2 soundtrack.

I really liked Sonic Adventure 2 as a kid. That being said, I already ruined it for myself by playing a bit of the Gamecube version a few months ago. Man. That game is just... dire. The shooting and Treasure Hunting levels are terrible, but the worst part is still the camera, easily. Borderline unplayable, let me tell ya.

The game had its problems but it is both one of the best Sonic games and the last truly great one to be released. Not that others as of late haven't been good but this game is a masterpiece.

I actually bought a used copy of the GameCube port about a year ago and thought the Sonic/Shadow controls felt terrible. I played the XBLA demo though and it felt pretty good. I'll hold off until December though, every year near Christmas a bunch of Sonic stuff gets put on sale, and I wouldn't be surprised if Adventure 2 is marked down to $5 for a week.

This was exactly my problem with the game, as well. The Sonic/Shadow portions were OK for the most part. The Tails/Eggman were tolerable, if mindless. But those Knuckles/Rouge scavenger hunts were abysmal.

Just loaded up my file from over 8 years ago (over 140 hours played!) yeah the camera is terrible and most of the gameplay (treasure hunt and shooting sections) sucks but hearing live and learn, and playing green forest reminded me why this game was a large part of my teenage years

I think the Chao Garden was pretty sweet, but some parts of this game really dragged. I think overall I liked the first one more.

I recently finished getting all A ranks on the Gamecube version, but I ended up picking this one up anyways.

Somehow this "HD" version looks worse than the Gamecube version. The textures on Sonic's shoes are a prime example. They look like garbage in this release, but they look fine on the Gamecube. The same goes for the look of everything else.

@Hailinel: Yep, I'd go into a Knuckles/Rouge mission thinking "I sure hope all the chaos emeralds are close together, or I may as well hit restart now." Anything that requires more luck than skill to complete is just bad design. Tails and Robotnik missions were shitty copies of Panzer Dragoon, but at least you could beat them in a single run.

Because ive played it so much i dont mind the treasure hunting or bot stages but its hard to recommend to someone who has never played the game. the sonic levels still hold up i think.

but that shadow bio lizard fight? I still hate hate hate it.
