Overview
Sonic Dash is a behind-the-back endless runner developed by Hardlight and digitally published by Sega for iOS devices on March 7, 2013. It was made free-to-play on March 29, 2013 and was ported to Android devices on June 2, 2014, to both PC (via Windows Store only) and Windows Phone 8 devices on December 3, 2014. The PC and WP versions were later discontinued.
A mobile spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of platformers, Sonic Dash brings many components of the main series (such as collecting rings and using both spin jumping and spin dashing to navigate around obstacles) to an endless runner setup similar to Temple Run, Subway Surfers, and Rayman: Jungle Run.
The game received numerous updates throughout the years, with additional playable characters and special events (including time-limited cross-promotions with Angry Birds, Sanrio, Pac-Man, the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, and the IDW Sonic the Hedgehog comic series). It also received two sequels (Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom in 2015 and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle in 2017) and an arcade "video redemption" port in 2015 (Sonic Dash Extreme).
On February 5, 2014, the game received a special Japanese-exclusive version that's only available for the LINE social media app. Titled Sonic Dash S, this version adds new abilities for each character and new features (such as online multiplayer). It was later re-released on May 17, 2015 without LINE functionality as Sonic Dash Club.
