I haven't been this interested in a Sonic game for quite a while now. I'm not just setting myself up for disappointment am I? I haven't played the demo because I no longer have an Xbox Live Gold Account, but is the general consensus that it's pretty good?

Old school and new school collide in this 20th Anniversary celebration of the Sonic franchise.
I'm probably going to buy this game because I'm an idiot.
I didn't care much for the demo. I liked Sonic back in the day, but now I'm just to conscious of the fact that all I'm doing is holding right and occasionally tapping jump. The demo didn't convince me that this was no longer the case. Also, it only includes a side-scrolling level so I have no idea what the 3D stuff is like.
The Sonic game has me really excited and optimistic, which is weird because I usually just write off Sonic games.
The Sonic Curse is a myth. There have been plenty of awesome Sonic games in recent years. Granted, most of the were on handhelds, but Colors was a step in the right direction for the full on games.
So dammit, I'm buying this with no hesitation. And you should feel ok about it, too.

You're not that much of an idiot for wanting it, since the last game (Colors) was a huge leap from the crap they've been selling for the last few years. Still, it would be a good idea to rent/wait for a price drop before dropping $60 for it.It's actually launching at $50, and it's a few dollars cheaper on Amazon.
I played the demo and I must say that I am truly excited for the release of this game. Not only did the 2D Generation feel well polished and just down-right fun, the 3D portions from behind-the-hedgehog were even fun to play to some extent. I think they really nailed the speed this time and cannot wait to see the entire game.
I enjoyed the demo. The 2D stuff was really good, but I also thought the 3D stuff was done well. However, I have always kind of enjoyed 3D sonic. As long as you play the 3D stuff without worrying about turning around, the 3D stuff is passable. The only problem is that the game might be too expensive.
I got a good first impression from the second demo they recently put out, but then I kept playing it. The jump annoys me to no end, the way you have to hold in the button to gain any sort of height just makes me wish that there were two jump buttons. The air control feels lacking as well, but I'm not sure if this is a problem stemming from the framerate dropping or not, actually that might be part of my problem with the jumping as well. It feels...unresponsive sometimes.
I still think it has a fair shot at being a good game and that it'll probably be the best 3D Sonic game so far. I'm also interested in seeing the guys quicklook the full version when it is out.

This game is honestly fantastic. I got a copy from Best Buy that happened to be selling early (check your local one, they also might be). Almost done with the game and it was well work getting, much to my surprise since I haven't enjoyed a sonic game in ages...
Thanks I might get it then. I played Sonic since the early 90's so it might be worth the nostalia trip.

I've only played the Sonic games from the Genesis era as well, and I can honestly say that I'm having more fun with this game that I ever had with the old Genesis ones. Modern Sonic is a massive adrenaline rush to play. It's significantly more complicated to play than Classic is, but once you start to get all the buttons down, and get a feeling for the speed and physics, the stunts you can pull off are crazy fun.
I haven't had fun with a Sonic game since SA2 and this one is well worth it. The camera is much improved but still not perfect. There are some bugs like in a certain boss fight I won't mention for spoiler purposes, I got stuck inside one of the platforms and had to restart the whole level because there was no suicide option.
Oh, and it has pinball. Must have.
It is fantastic and I am 2 bosses into the game. It balances a lot of the action and platforming stuff really well. And the challenges are really enjoyable, though a couple are tedious (Helping knuckles dig for treasure).
