First, if you haven't seen it already, check out the new video for Sonic the Hedgehog 4:

Now, if you look closely, you'll notice that Sonic's run animation for the new game looks kind of slow... I'm a bit concerned that they won't get the animation right and the whole game will feel slow... do you guys think Sonic's run animation looks good, or should there be more spinny legs instead of this one foot in front of the other crap?

    Yeah, it's very distracting.

They should do it like Nintendo did, giving him the "wheel" feet animation.

    @Willy105:
That's less of wheel and more of figure 8 / infinity / moebius strip animation.  I agree it does look cool.

Definitely need a wheel of blur of some kind.

One more thing I'd like?  More layers of parallax scrolling in the background.  Sonic 3 had tons of layers, and I think high res 2D means you need to add even more layers to make it look as good as it did.

I don't really mind, but the "spinny" legs look better I think...

The example @Willy105 was really good, that'd look sweet.

Considering this is likely an unfinished build shown and the trailer itself looks to be put together... hastily, at best, I wouldn't count on this representing his final running animation.

That's what I thought when I first saw the trailer,

What seems to be the problem here????? Nothing.

I see what you mean actually. However they've only just properly announced the game, we're a fair way from playing the finished build and there's no point in judging the run animation this early on, they could change it entirely from the one we saw in the trailer.

I just noticed everywhere in that video Sonic is leaving huge dust clouds behind.  Not a great look...

    I concur.

Although his animation in the trailer does look a bit like the one from Sonic Rush, if you slow it down a lot and if he's not boosting (which is not often).

The thing is, it was fine in Sonic Rush because it was not something you saw often. If you were playing Sonic Rush correctly, you were always boosting, meaning you were always a blue blur and couldn't see Sonic clearly. Here, there is no boost, Sonic is back to his original speed, and you can clearly see his animation.

It is distracting going at that speed and being in walking mode all the time.

As nice as it is to know that Sonic walks at that speed, I want to see him running.

Lol if they want to portray Sonic become older then they nailed it with his slow ass running. My god im surprised he didn't fall off that horizontal helix.

Sonic has been dead to me for years, so if this running animation is off its because the real sonic died during the genesis era and this is another one of the impostors that sega uses to make money off of us.

" The game is just gonna blow. Simple. It's gonna be a $20 piece of shit downloadable display of mascot prostitution. They took what could have been a good idea, and decided to ...once again... not put in any fucking effort at all. SEGA is full of god damn money hungry shameless pedophiles.

Okay, it might not blow. It will be tolerable. But they are still dragging Sonic out into the woods, pulling his pants off, and raping him silly. <--South Park reference. "
This is pretty unfair based on a few seconds of footage.

For one thing hey have said that there will be mechanics to speed up Sonic.  They don't want it to be like the terrible Advance/Rush games where you just hold right and hit boost pads, but performing well during the stages and keeping the flow going will increase the speed at which he moves at.

It's also very possible this is just early footage.  I agree that it looks odd, but even if this is how he runs for the whole game, it's not going to make it any better/worse.
