I just got this game and really want an arcade stick. I see some Hori ones on play-asia and wonder if I should import.
Soulcalibur IV
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jul 29, 2008
The fifth installment in Namco's Soul series of weapon-based fighting games, Soulcalibur IV is the first to be released on seventh-generation consoles and the first online entry in the series. It's known for its use of Star Wars characters as guest fighters.
Are "Hori" brand arcade sticks any good?
Whether you should import or not somewhat depends on which Hori stick you're looking at. I have the Hori Fighting Stick EX2, which I found in a local Gamestop for $60. You can also find it at Amazon and a number of other places (it might be branded with Virtua Fighter or even Soulcalibur IV, but it's the same stick). It's not exactly the best quality stick ever made, but for $60 I'm plenty happy with it. It's a lot of fun to use and feels like it should be fairly durable.
They have a stick that's a step up from that, but it's at least double the price and does require an import (I think it's part of their Real Arcade Pro line, although I don't remember the exact model number or anything). I don't have any hands-on experience with it to tell you how much different it is, but it probably depends on how much money you're willing to spend and how picky you are about your arcade sticks. For most people, I would say the EX2 would be just fine and is a good bit cheaper and easier to find.
Im on the same boat as Ravioli Sumo.
Theres a Hori PS3 Fight Stick 3 on amazon for like 40$, is that one any good? How does it compare to those more expensive fighting sticks. Is it similar?
im not a hardcore fighting fan , and was thinking of picking up SCIV and prolly a stick. what should I go for?
Hori sticks are pretty amazing for me, although I'm not very picky when it comes to sticks. Although I do prefer concave buttons with a ball stick.
I picked up the EX 2 [soul calibur] ed one this week and I like it a lot, I am working on modifying it
"I just found some really high quality sticks. That costs twice as much as the Hori EX2.
These are hard to come past, but you should not hesitate to pick one up.

Its leagues better then a shitty EX2.

"The EX2 ones are decent.T5 as in Tekken 5? I wasn't sure if a converter would work.
If you are on ps3 and want a really good stick, either get an HRAP3, or the Virtua Stick High Grade.
That is my preference.
I cant stand the Fight Stick Pro on the PS3 because of the button layout.
I am currently using a t5 stick with a ps2/ps3 converter.

I cant recomend the Hori EX2 enough. I have not playd SC4 with anything other than the arcade stick. Its also nice with most of the arcade games in the Xbox arcade, so when trying to decide between a PS3 stick or 360 I went 360.

Although only 3 converters work at this time, and two of them are hard to get.
The Ant Commandos converter.
The Real Converter.
The Pelican coverter are the best ones.
The Ant Commandos one can be had for 20 dollars.
EX2s are a waste for what you have to pay. Spend a little more and have a stick that will last you along time.
