Not counting the XBLA title, of course. For myself, I never did play SCIII, due to it being a PS2 exclusive. I owned a PS2, but by the time it came out I already moved on to next-gen gaming. The good news is that means I haven't played a SC title since the second, meaning I'll have eight new fighters to mess around with in this version instead of four. Also, since I never played III, I never got to mess around with the character creator before. Can't wait.

Soulcalibur IV
Game » consists of 14 releases. Released Jul 29, 2008
The fifth installment in Namco's Soul series of weapon-based fighting games, Soulcalibur IV is the first to be released on seventh-generation consoles and the first online entry in the series. It's known for its use of Star Wars characters as guest fighters.
If you're buying IV, what was the last Soul Calibur you bought?
I've put far too many hours into pretty much all of the Soulcalibur games so far (except for the original Soul Edge). It doesn't sound like I can match the hardcore-ness of Thomas, though. All four versions of SCII? Wow.
Although I've probably put more hours into each progressive title than the one before it, I still think Soulcalibur II is the best overall so far. I'm not one of those people who lives to hate on SCIII, mind you, I had tons of good fun with it. It was just a bit unpolished. From what I've read, it looks like SCIV is set to put up a pretty good fight with SCII for best in the series. I certainly hope so.
I played SC III at a friends house, but the last I bought was the Gamecube and Xbox versions of SC II.
"I might buy Soul Calibur on XBLA. If I do, that would be before I buy Soul Calibur IV.With no online play and no mission mode for the XBLA SC, I'd just wait a few more days and buy the real thing. Everything is unlocked from the beginning in the XBLA title, which takes away a lot of the fun. In the meanwhile, play the hell out of the XBLA demo and decide if you like the series.

Alot of people have not played 3 but last SC i bought was 3, then 2 =D
I love the story aspect so 4 is going to be good =D
I skipped 3 for some reason. I think for a lot of people, myself included, that the third game sort of slipped under the radar, which was a bummer. I got SC2 for my xbox on release day. Spawn, though.. ;______;
I'll be getting 4 today, but I've never purchased any SC games before. I remember I happened to be at an EB the day SC2 was released in the US. Problem was, I wasn't in the US. I was in Canada and the game wasn't released for another 2 days, then I forgot all about it. My roommate has a copy of 2 for Xbox. Played it hardcore for like a 3 or 4 days and then something screwed up and my save files got deleted. Stopped playing. Never played 1 or 3.
I had 2 for the Gamecube (I bought it 'cause it had Link, lol). I then bought Soul Blade for the PSX after that. Then my friend bought Soul Calibur 3 and I played that with him. Then I downloaded the trial for the XBLA Soul Calibur. Yes, I know, it's a shame that my only experience with the original Soul Calibur was an XBLA trial. =[
Then I bought Soul Calibur IV today.
man i'm old...i started with soul edge on the ps1. yeah, not soul blade, but a first run import of soul edge, which totally bricked my ps1 after a week. and i've owned all of them except SClegends, since. glad i didn't give up on the series after sc3's horrific balance issues.
I own all the games in the main series (which excludes Legends), including the DREAMCAST Version of I and Soul Blade/Edge for the Playstation. I got the Gamecube version of II because, although the D Pad kinda sucked for fighters, the idea of using Link in a TRUE fighting game, let alone a Soul Calibur game, seemed really cool to me, albeit, a little out of place.
I got the PS3 version of IV because I wanted Vader more than Yoda (though that doesnt matter much anymore since they're going to be made DLC soon) and because the PS3 D Pad is much better for fighters than the 360 D Pad... also my 360 is currently broke, but I still would have gotten the PS3 version anyway.
