I was wondering if there was going to be any community here on GB for SC5. I would like to get an idea of how many people on here on GB are going to buy SC5 for sure, and would be interested in playing online with other people. There hasn't been tons of talk here up to this point so I'm just trying to figure out if that means disinterest, or perhaps just a lack of material to talk about.

--So who here is interested in SC5

General rule of Giant Bomb, like other places, is that people don't seem to talk about any fighting game that doesn't have a Capcom logo (GB community has a hardon in particular for SF4). So I'm not surprised to see little to no talk.

Personally I'm still skeptical, the last two SC games haven't been that great. 3 was terrible and 4 had balance issues that the community took a bit too long to solve (IMO), I'm going into 5 with an open mind but money's too tight for me to drop $60 on a game I'm iffy (at best) on. I definitley want to check it out, but I don't want to pay full price of admission to do so.

And regarding online, don't get your hopes up, Namco doesn't have a good track record with their fighting games and online play (nor does any other developer besides Arksys, but even then its no replacement for offline).

Not at all. I think Soul Calibur is both boring to watch and play, with no charm. I also don't really like 3D fighting games, despite that I'm going to give Tekken Tag 2 a try.

So for me it's SF x Tekken, which will be superb, and Tekken Tag 2 for fighting games this year. Going to try the Persona 4 fighting game when I get the chance too.

Capcom netcode has been good for SFIV and MvC3. It's pretty decent, the biggest problem is that it's still online, so hiccups are going to happen. A lot of people have pretty poor Internet still.

In Japan a lot of the top players play online a lot, the small landmass and godlike connections mean the netcode can shine there.

God no. Everything they have shown of that game leads me to believe they just reskinned a bunch of models and released a new game. The engine looks identical to the last game.

Not true. We get boners for Mortal Kombat as well.

I am more excited about SC5 than I was a few months ago. I thought they really beefed up and fixed the character creator system. And I think Ezio fits that universe more than a stupid Star Wars.

Capcom != Namco Bandai, that was the point! Capcom's netcode isn't perfect, but it was leagues better at launch day in SF4 and MvC3 than Tekken 6 or SC4 until they finally patched the damn thing.

To @TechHits: I'm interested but not enough to spend $60 on it. I hope you're more interested in this game than the post made you sound if you're starting a topic for it.

Interesting, nearly half of the replies to the thread were talking about how much they don't want to play the game. Not normally a good sign, but we'll see what happens when the game comes out I guess.

iv been a big fan of the series for years, didnt play 3 (no PS2), then 4 was disappointing, but im gonna buy this one, i think they've still got it in them to make a good game, iv never been a fan of character creators in fighting games, but i will try my best with it, i want to like it!

FFXIII2 is out too, and i dug the hell out of that demo, so i dunno if ill get it straight off the bat, im pretty sure there are more games out in the next 2 months that im interested in, than there was for the whole of last year

I can't deny I'm actually sort of interested, but I'm not committing until I know everything about the game. At this point some of the characters haven't been announced and it's still possible for them to fuck things up DLC wise.

I am. It's almost guaranteed that I'll enjoy it more than Soul Calibur IV simply because of there being no Star Wars characters this time. Fighting Starkiller in the arcade ladder was a pain in the ass.

Not trying to be another Negative Nancy but for some reason nothing I've seen of this game does anything for me, this is coming out soon too? why then does it look just like SCIV? I thought they were saying at E3 they were re-using assests but recent trailers make the game look just like SCIV , personally Im more exited for DOA5 , Street fighter X Tekken and Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

The lack of my go to characters from previous SC games is upsetting but I'm excited neither the less.

I keep trying to play some SCIV online for prep but the only people who still play are the ones who've been there since day one so if anyone who has it for 360 wants to play my GT is R E D E E M 3 R

I still think SC3 was the best in the series, although I did enjoy 4. Thankfully no Star Wars crossover this time.

well theyre making it fast and more offensive... but they made new characters and got rid of... kilik... and put in a blond dude with yosukes voice screaming the word "justice!" and telling you to "SHUT UP!" ...

did i mention they made is faster and more offensive game with blockstrings that work?

    i'm pretty hype.

It's weird but I've never approached the SC games with my standard fighting game mentality of HYPE.

That being said, I am looking forward to it (especially create-a-character) and am willing to give online play a try with anyone other GB'ers that get the game. I'm pretty terrible though.

Everything I have actually seen of the game makes me quite excited for it yes.

It has been quite some time since I last put any serious time into a 3d-fighter and I am looking forward to doing so (I hope). Worst case scenario it will be some fun to create obnoxious looking characters to go online and best people up with. In an obnoxious manner of course.

No, I'm not interested. I thought SC2 was pretty good, but I lost interest in the series after SC3. While the fighting was good, and the new characters were interesting, the overall game was very poorly designed and uninteresting.

I can't wait for SC5, though my main interest in the series is the character creation these days. I've had the urge to make new characters for a while but I rage-traded my copy of SC4 in a couple years ago when my save got corrupted and I lost all of mine.

Surprised so many people who don't give a lick of interest are perusing these boards. Heh.

Anyway, I'm one of those guys who thinks the series peaked at II, but I've still had enough fun with the games since to play them as they come. I'm excited to give V a try, even though I don't expect to be completely floored by it or anything.

I might get it. I might. I haven't seen anything to really sell me on it yet, but I like the series as a whole and continue to give it chances to get back in my good graces. The first SC might be my favorite fighting game ever, and I liked the others well enough. None of the sequels have really pulled me in, but they are still fun. I might buy it if reviews give me enough reason to believe it is better than IV, which I was really underwhelmed with.

No interest. Mortal Kombat is about the only fighting game I find even remotely interesting. I can appreciate watching a match every now and then, but mastering fighting mechanics using characters with comically oversized anatomy isn't something that strikes my fancy.

I loved the original few games (up till 2) but since then they've been massively disappointing, I've seen nothing from 5 that would make me think this will be a return to form.

Axing most of my favourite characters hasn't helped.

I have never really cared for Soul Calibur as a series. However, my friend showed me footage from SC5, and I have to say that I'm intrigued by it. There seems to be a snappiness and quickness to it that wasn't there before. I think it has to do with all the additional dashing added to sidesteps and such.
