    The Spawn character first appeared in Spawn comic book in 1992. It was created, written and drawn by  Todd McFarlane and published by Image Comics. Several of Spawn's early adventures were written by other famous comic book creators, such as Neil Gaiman, Dave Sim,  Frank Miller and Alan Moore. The first issue of Spawn remains one of the highest-selling comic books of all-time.
     

    Spin-Offs

    There have been several Spawn spin-off comic books. The include:
    • Hellspawn
    • Sam & Twitch
    • Adventures of Spawn
    • Spawn/Batman
    • Curse of the Spawn
    • Cy-Gor
    • Angela
    • Violator
     

    Toys

    The first line of Spawn toys was released in 1994 by Todd Toys (now called McFarlane Toys). Since then there have been several dozen series of Spawn toys, each with varying themes and wild character designs.
     

    Film & Television

    In 1997 the Spawn feature film was released. It was directed by Mark A. Z. Dippé and starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo and Martin Shee n.  1997 also saw the start of the Spawn Animated Series on HBO. It starred Keith David as the voice of Spawn.
