Overview
A franchise based off of the popular Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man, including comics, movies and TV shows that he and his companions have featured in. His games generally emphasize his acrobatic skills and various spider-related abilities.
Spider-Man games began almost as early as video games themselves, with a Spidey game appearing on the Atari 2600, although it was not noted for its quality. Since then, a vast number of games have been produced, most based off of the comics or original storylines, until the release of the Spider-Man feature film in 2002, which saw the release of a movie licensed game which was fairly successful and well-received, which slowed the flow of Spider-Man games to mostly movie-licensed games, with the notable exceptions of Ultimate Spider Man and Marvel's Spider-Man.
