What do you think the best Spider-man game is?

I don't know how I started thinking about this recently but I've been wanting to play another spider-man game.
For some reason though the best one I ever played was Spiderman 2 which was a movie game, was that just a great movie game or are Spider-man games really really bad?
 Thoughts?

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark - The Official Game of the Musical.  It's not for conventional platforms; only Charlie Sheen.  The objective is to get through a single performance without any broken limbs, set malfunctions, or deaths, and plays like a cross between Heavy Rain and Parappa the Rapper.

As far as Spider-Man games that can be played on conventional hardware?  Yeah, Spider-Man 2 was cool, I guess.

I remember Maximum Carnage being fun when I was a kid, but if there's anything I've learned it's that when you're a kid you're an idiot and like just about anything if it's got a super hero in it.

Spider-man for the PSX
Spider-man 2: Enter Electro (also for the PSX)
Spider-man 2 (the movie the game) (PS2, Xbox, GC)

These three are, in my opinion, the only good ones out there.

Probably Spider-Man: Enter Electro for the PS1 or Web of Shadows.
Do yourself a favor and don't go back to Maximum Carnage, like most 16-bit beat'em ups it has not aged well.

Either Spider-Man 2 or Ultimate Spider-Man. Both were excellent.

Spiderman 2 on the PS2. Perfection. Why? It has Bruce Campbell, that's why.

For me, it's between these and Ultimate Spider-Man.

The one I played the most was probably Spider-Man 2, though. I put an unhealthy amount of hours into that game. Was so let down by Spider-Man 3.

Yeah spiderman 2 for the ps2 was awesome. Also spiderman on the ps1 is a personal favorite of mine. Spiderman 2 clinches it though.

I actually kinda like most of them. Spider-man PSOne was great at the time, Spider-man 2 on the PS2 was probably the best on that model, although Ultimate Spider-man has the best story and Web of Shadows is the most playable.

But here's my all time favourite:

The Amazing Spider-man on the PC.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/amazing-spider-man

Sure, it's a game from 1989 and you'll have trouble tracking it down (legally, at least). Also, it's not what you expect, it's a puzzle platformer.

It is also a very, very important game. Because, you know, it's the granddaddy to stuff like N+, Super Meat Boy, IWBTG and all those other single screen platformers about getting from A to B while remaining alive through multiple rooms. It is a great, great game not many people know about and my favourite Spidey-themed game ever.

CHYEAAAAH! I loved so games A-plenty and strived for all the costumes and comics. Spider Man 2 I remembered being significantly tougher than the original, though.

I loved Spiderman 2 and if you think about it...Prototype is a Spiderman game in spirit...and I kinda enjoyed that.

But to surprise most and be different, I thought Shattered Dimensions was awesome :- )

I think it would ether be Spider-Man 2 or Ultimate Spider-Man.  Those were the ones I was able to get into at least.

Spiderman 2 is good, to be sure.  I really got into Spiderman: Web of Shadows though.  Combat was fun, the city looked great, and while the plot was a bit dopey, it got the job done reasonably well.

I liked Ultimate Spiderman and Web of Shadows, Im actually going through Shattered Dimensions right now (cause I found out there was a PC version of it only a couple of days ago... thanks for the awesome coverage GB) and so far it's pretty cool, you are no longer on a sandbox style city, which I think is a good change of pace from all the mediocre games that came out of the franchise, but it's still a lot of fun and it seems to have a lot of stuff to do (it has lots of stuff to collect and unlock and a ton of level-based challenges).

As someone who just played Maximum Carnage again, I can tell you that it has aged HORRIBLY. The gameplay is still okay, but the graphics look TERRIBLE. And no, I'm not being sarcastic, I realize it's a SNES game, but even for a SNES game, it looks TERRIBLE. The gameplay, as I said, is okay, but nothing to write home about. The hidden stuff is pretty cool considering how few games implemented it well.

I honestly think the two recent games were great. Web of Shadows was cool, but the quests became pretty tedious by the end. Which is why I really liked Shattered Dimensions. It had you confined, but it still gave you the feeling of being able to web-swing and really BE Spider-Man.

I decided to look up Spider-Man on Gamestop.com to see where I can find them and the first two that happened to pop up was Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man. So those games have to be good.

Ultimate Spider-man.
I thought it really surpassed Spider-man 2.  Better story, voice acting.. the environment was more fun to explore, there was more to do, it looked a hell of a lot better..

And even though Spider-man 2 is technically a movie game, I think it's exempt from the rule of "all movie games suck" because it's actually based on the same engine and gameplay mechanics from a bunch of other Spider-man games there were made prior to that one (and not based on movies).  So they didn't have much room to screw anything up.  Except for the story, which was awful in the game anyway.

Spiderman for the PSX was great, had some really awesome boss battles. Also had a lot of fun just swinging about in Spiderman 2 on my Gamecube.

Have been meaning to check out Web Of Shadows for a while now.... thanks for the reminder :D

Was Ultimate Spider man like the comic Ultimate Spiderman or was that just a title choice?
I use to read Ultimate Spiderman a lot when it first came out. I liked some of the takes on characters like Green Goblin and Venom.

It was based on the Ultimate storyline comics, yes. You played as both Spidey and Venom (with the symbiote created by Parker's dad if I remember it correctly)

My memories of Spider-Man 2 are fuzzy but I remember liking it. I think Ultimate was kind of a step down, but it was still cool because you could play as Venom and jump around the city eating people and throwing cars around.

Spider-Man 2 on the Gamecube.  That game was the business.

I thought Ultimate Spider-Man was alright, but there was significantly less to do and the swinging didn't feel right.

Spider-Man 2 because it was a great game.
