SNL Fleet: Romulan Expansion
@nixon34: The amount of server downtime since Romulans is highly unusual. Seems like a combination of factors according to the exec producer (one of which is probably their attention and technical staffing is split with Neverwinter.) ;p
Paying for your first month while you level up multiple characters to 50 is where the value is. There's no need for you to buy anything else with real money if you have unlimited time. Because the exchange cost of Zen<>Dilithium is so low right now, it has never been easier to grind for Zen currency, and I know players who regularly do this for $25 ships. There are rate caps, but you do not actually need to spend a dime.
@brackynews: Its funny how i start to feel like i know what i am doing and then i read your comment and realize there is still so much more i don't know. Just takes time i guess. Thanks for the help.
Could I get another invite? I decided to start a Romulan, and have since moved everything over from my Federation character to this new one, Kal'ina@Ubersmake .
I don't think I could go back to levelling a Federation character after this. The "tutorial" was surprisingly brisk, as far as experience and rewards go. And for whatever reason, it feels better attacking things indiscriminately as a Romulan than a Fed.
@ubersmake: What do you find the differences are between the two. It seems like the Romulan ships are considerably more maneuverable.

The first ship is a smaller assault craft, the 2nd and 3rd ship you will get are much larger and heavier. The D'Deridex is basically the equivalent of a federation cruiser (except bigger).

As far as leveling goes, it took me ~3-4 hours to get my Romulan up to 10 and receive the next class of ship. For my Federation character, this was closer to ~9-10 hours. And this is with me reading all the quest text. I think that the rewards for the Romulan quest line are given so much more frequently and are of such greater quality (including the XP rewards) compared to the Federation quest line that you end up having a much brisker experience. That, and the Romulan quest line seems a lot more interesting, IMO. There's also some disconnect from me due to the Federation in STO being a lot more militaristic, by necessity, compared to its portrayals in the shows and movies.
As far as ships go, that cloak is a big thing. Probably *the* big thing, especially since you get it right from the start.
Hey guys!
Just to say, I sustained over a dozen major injuries fighting the elite level crystalline entity (something I do NOT recommend!) and so took a bunch of components from the fleet bank.
I shall replace them once I pick some more up.
Also I just found out that Rom captains can't fly tier 5 fed ships, so I spent 100k on a mirror universe assault cruiser and couldn't even use it! I think that's pretty sucky, given the pretty limited range of Rom ships!
Hello Lobsters!
I've just started playing about a week and a half ago but STO quickly cast its spell on "Pupsi Schulz", the now Vice Admiral loner, collecting Dilithium and all sorts of Marks whenever possible. I was in a fleet pretty much from my first day on, since somebody just randomly invited me and I thought it wouldn't hurt, however, as a fellow Duder I really didn't feel at home - memories of the crew's series of QLs came rushing in ... to become a Space Neon Lobster is my ambition!
So, if you don't mind, just invite the hell out of me! Pupsi Schulz@kackhorst
@obcdexter: How on earth did you get that ship after a week and a half. what rank are you?
I am also looking for an invite, Toby@nixon341.
Thanks.
@brackynews: So i am still figuring some of this out as i go. But let me know if this is the best method and/or price for Dilithium Zen exchange. I went through the Assests Exchange in game and traded at 119 Dilithium per Zen. Is there a better way to do it and is that a good price?
@nixon34: The 4-nacelle ship comes pretty early. :)
That is the one and only way to exchange Zen<>Dilith. Is 119 a good price? Well, it was 116 about a week ago, 90 a few months ago, over 500 when dilithium was first introduced (before the starbase monster) ~eighteen months ago, and the most stable price I took advantage of in 2012* was around 275-330.
You can let it sit at the price you want, for as long as it takes the market to find that price. My advice is don't expect a swing of more than +/- 20 at the time you decide you need it.
*Note for MMO historians: this market shift happened after Cryptic Points $1.25:100 were changed to Zen $1:100, which resulted in the market rate receiving more Dil per Zen.
Hey folks, remember when I talked about updating my uber-spreadsheet? Here ya go. This is what being a fleet banker to a huge fleet does to ya.

That might be the most confusing thing.
@crunchbitejr: Glad you made it! Yes we have some big fleet holdings upgrades in the pipe now, and there is a great one coming up this summer that is meant to reduce the dilithium burden for smaller fleets.
Question: What do I need to do the access the limited-time Feature Episodes? I'm level 12 on my Fed character and can't seem to activate the Skirmish mission for Specters, which requires level 11, from my Episodes Log. Am I missing something?
@mr_creeper: If you have never played the Skirmish mission before, look backwards in your Episodes list. Eventually it will show you an active Skip button. Keep hitting Skip until it advances to the mission you want to play. There's no penalty, it's just meant to be episodic. Like on the tee vee!
When it comes to the Feature Reruns, the point of those is to get the unique limited time item. I forget exactly, but you should only need to play the final mission in the arc to get it.
@umbaglo: No probs, and welcome to the fleet!
So are we sending all the Softshells to work in our new dilithium mine? :p
All surviving Softshells from their first two weeks of mining now have a bit more exoskeleton. :) And the contest winners got an extra bump for being trivially awesome.
And it's about time I updated the member list...
Reinstalled to see some of the newness & feel free to add/update the list for me. Nitocris is the main @fox01313 if I recall the rest though trying out with a new character on a few factions to see the starting/tutorial stuff.
edit- also not sure if anyone on GB is playing on the Klingon side or if there's a SNL fleet equivalent, if so hit me with a message as I've got my Klingon faction character up to the max level a while back & just tired of all the fleet requests (if there's not a Klingon side fleet anymore, I'll help get it started after seeing things on SNL). Full list below of the character names:
character name -federation | character name -klingon | character name -romulan |
---|---|---|
nitocris (rank/lvl 50) | ophelia (rank/lvl 50) | somara (federation aligned) |
@fox01313: Greetings three-months-ago duder. No there has not been the mass needed to sustain the KDF fleet, to my knowledge.
You can certainly turn off fleet invites, but I do recommend that you find a welcoming KDF fleet that suits you. Folks roll dirty and deep, lots of fun.
Well, after a few months of very limited access to STO, I am well and truly back in. The Voth stuff is pretty enjoyable and I am not too far off T5 in the Dyson Reputation system. Have been chucking what I can into the fleet mine also.
I think the new ground capture mechanic is good fun and it's the best STO ground combat that I can recall.
Really looking forward to what the 4 year anniversary event/reward will be. Any ideas?
Just got back into STO and decided I need a good fleet. If you guys are still active give me an invite. PirateTravis@PirateTravis
Huh, the fleet is still active. I just started playing again. Shiro@raishirou i think is the handle. Man, i wish i knew how the Romulans worked, i would've just made one of them instead.
@shirogane: I'll see if I can add you.
@piratetravis: When I checked you were already in a fleet, so I hope you're having fun wherever that may be!
Welcome back to the game! I would add you to the fleet, but I am away for a few days.
I am sure @brackynews or one of our other members will add you as soon as they can.
I'm trying to join up into the fleet but I can't find it under the Fleet tab in the social tools thingy. Name's Chrisbott84@Chrisbot84 (note the two t's on the first Chrisbott) so feel free to invite me!
Hey, I've jumped back into this game thanks to my girlfriend watching TNG, and I wanted to fly the colors of my Giant Bomb love. If Velip@narfic can be of any assistance to the Space Neon Lobsters, I'd be happy to join up.
@malgoo: @chrisbot84: @narficacid: I know it's super late, but if you guys haven't been invited yet, I'll be happy to oblige. Big patch just changed crafting (again) so I'm back in STO for a bit to check it out!
Also, I'm here to invite if anyone else sees this message and wants in!
