For those of you that listened to the bombcast, there was an email telling Jeff not to complain about the APB download since the guy downloaded force unleashed and tis 30gb. The guys thought the writer must have been mistaken, or perhaps simply retarded. I admit that I too thought the writer was confused, but it turns out its true. 
 
Did any of you guys actually download this game? Who sent that email, dude really? Did you realize it was 30gb before downloading? I played the game on console and I can safely say it isn't worth 30gb.

 
It's all that physics man... Honestly, I can't imagine what that 30gb could be, it must be a mistake, right?

So far as I can tell it's straight up 30 gigs. However last time I played it, it was horribly unoptimized and ran like shit so watch out for that. I can't really tell you what all that extra crap is there for.

Let me explain it for you, the reason it's 30Gb is that Midi-chlorians the tiny elements that make the physics and particle effect possible, can't be controlled in small numbers, so you need at least 30Gb to lift a Tie Fighter. Hope that cleared it up for you.

Didn't believe it either till I looked it up on Steam.

What are some larger games? X-Plane 8 requires 70 GB. Ouch.

Dragon Age + Awakening was like 20GB, I have no idea what they put in Force Unleashed to make it 30. Lots of hidden porn maybe?

I already knew he was right (there was a thread about this before), but that part of the bombcast was pretty funny.  "Durrrr he thinks it's 30GB?!  He must be simple or something."

It's just a fact that, as internet speeds get quicker and people have more storage, game developers will take advantage and take advantage of this to add more to games thus making for a more complete and comprehensive experience.  I, for one, welcome this and hope it is a sign of things to come.

You know it's going to have terrible optimization when on the front page there is a huge notice saying that it absolutely requires a Core 2 Duo or above or it won't run. People like me that are stuck on a Pentium D and don't own a console were fucked. Because I really, really want that game. :|

This is just a bit of foreshadowing for the future when they come out with those PS3 blu-ray disc only games on steam where those you'll have to download like 20 to 30 gigs, which would be the norm.

30 gigs? 
Wow.They have everything in the game.You'll be able to polish your gun while talking to it,using a very complex dialog system.It gains more pixels that way.

30GB reminds me of Unreal Tournament 2004 and all the TC mods during that "make something unreal" contest. Eff that.

It must be all the extra DLC, because a DVD can't hold more than about 8 1/2 GB, and they fit the game on a single DVD for the 360 version.

Since I seem to be the only person posting here so far who has actually downloaded the game I will confirm that yes it is indeed 30GB. Biggest game I've downloaded on steam so far and I was shocked and kind of annoyed when I saw the size of it. Still you can't argue with the pricetag and from what I've played of it so far it's a relatively enjoyable game.

As some have said, the install size is around 25GB, but when compressed it fits on two DVD9s (14.2 GB). Not sure why the download size would be 30GB since the install files themselves should only amount to the 14.2 GB. This includes over 7.5 GB worth of FMVs.

Just bought this on Steam (played the hell out of it on consoles, loved it) and shat myself.  Wish I would have saw this beforehand.  I looked it up on google and the only explanation I saw was a bunch of language packs, but I don't know if that's true.
