Been playing through Wings of Liberty's campaign for a few hours and thought about how long it took to get this game out.
I'm loving it so far but am curious as to how long it will be till the expansion comes out. Has Blizzard said anything about Hear of the Swarm's release date. If I were to guess I would say 18 months but thats my optimism shining through.

I can comfortably say that Blizzard will be better at releasing expansions than Valve is.

Between now and (maybe) the end of time.

On a more serious note, probably 1 year to 1.5 years, judging from their past starcraft and diablo expansions.

Well, they mostly have to focus on the singleplayer.... So, less than 12 years.
    Hopefully.

Well yeah, at this point theres been:

2 uncharted games while theyve been "working on" episode
    batman arkham
    2 assassins creeds
    2bioshocks
    2 BFBC
    2 crysis
    2 modern warfares (and WAW)
    2 mass effects

    the list goes on

Episode 3 if it still exists better be the most epic episode ever and longer than 2 hours

Do people even remember that Episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger? Does anyone still care? ...come on valve

They said they are stand-alones, so I'm guessing the multi-player will remain the same with updates?

Also, I'm saying it's out between Diablo III and the final WoW Expansion.

A year between expansions I can, grudgingly, deal with. But my gut tells me it might take a bit longer than that. I'm not sure if they intend to release Diablo 3  before or after the expansions.

Blizz said that we would have 1 year between each WoW expansion, but it ended up being 2 years. So you probably won't see the next starcraft for another 18 months.

As said by Chris Sigaty Lead Producer on StarCraft II.:   What is the timeline on releasing expansion #1?

Chris Sigaty:" It's 10 years per (laughs). No, we're estimating about 18 months from release of Wings of Liberty to when the next one comes out. That's purely speculative, honestly. Historically, it's taken us about a year-WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne is a good example-but you'll see the sum-total package [in Wings of Liberty] has raised the bar and there's a lot more to do with StarCraft II's expansions. I think 18 months is probably fairly accurate."

I'm pretty sure they said they were going to do minor content updates a la WoW with SC2 as well. So it's not like we won't have anything new till Heart of the Swarm.

It just seems like the single player campaigns should be the draw because they decided to split the game up. I don't want to pay $40 (maybe $60)  two more times just for a couple extra units in multiplayer to stay competitive.

And just to use Blizzard as an example, they are changing the entirety of the old world in WoW and you don't need to get the expansion for that.

They're coming out almost 2 years apart, they're just like regular pc expansions. Brood War didn't retroactively add its units to the original. You won't be matched up (I'm pretty sure) against people who have Heart of the Swarm. You'll only play Wings of Liberty players if you don't own HotS

They arent getting rid of WoW, just changing the way its played. The changes made after the final expansion as well as additional content will be downloaded from Blizzard directly.

No, I'm pretty sure it's Zerg next. In the menu part of the actual game, under the single-player part, if you've beat the campaign it actually says something to the effect of "Discover the fate of Kerrigan, and the swarm in "The Heart of the Swarm." The next chapter in the Starcraft II trilogy." Which was a complete surprise to me to see that. Usually Blizzard doesn't commit to that kind of info that early on, but I guess in this case the order of the trilogy had already been set in stone, so it didn't really matter if everyone knew.

I guess that makes sense, just kinda sucks fragmenting the player base.  Guess I'll be dropping more money into this game as I would venture to guess the majority of players will have the expansions.
