Regarding the "Idra Rage", even on the State of the Game podcasts, which I'm pretty sure even Welch can agree as being done by "people who know what the fuck they're talking about", there's still some jabs made at Idra, mostly semi-sarcastically, with regards to how he handle losses, complain a lot, and talk a whole bunch of shit constantly regarding the NA SC2 players.  I think the "Idra is a dick" view is more valid than the Idra defenders here would want to admit to, though he's not a walking cock either.

On topic, his games were pretty fun to watch.  Regarding the "so he does what every other Zerg does", it's more like every other Zerg does what he does, given he is one of the best non-Korean players out there.  That and SC2 is far more about the smoothness of your play than funky build orders and unit compositions.  Of course, ironed out play is not very noticeable on a live casted stream.  Easiest way to compare is just do exactly what he's doing and see how badly he's beating you on the food count at the same point on the clock.

To quote inControl in the latest State of the Game podcast, "if he win and it's a good game, then you are one of the best players he has played.  But if you win, then you are some fucking asshole."  Comment is made with a degree of sarcasm, but you get the idea.

" If Idra played less starcraft than I did and beat me I'd be impressed. But dudes been practicing all day every day for 12 years.  And still isn't the best in the world.  That to me is wrong. It says to me that he is a naturally untalented player. "
Well actually, Idra only just turned 20 and he only started playing it in the past like 7 years or so. He didnt start playing every day all day at first either, he was just a regular dude who played it in his free time (probably all his free time) and just was really really good. Plus, you have to understand that Starcraft in Korea is like Football in America but even more so. The best Brood War players are the biggest celebrities in Korea, so seeing Idra loose to them isnt too surprising. Also, every time I see Idra playing in another tournament I feel like he is getting drastically drastically better. He seems to be improving extremely fast and I'd like my chances in betting that he wins one of the GSLs in the next 6 months or so.

Also, I am not one of those people that think the players that play in these tournaments have some kind of super human talent that lets them get to the level they are at, but I will say, not everyone has the ability to become as good as Idra and many of these other players. So to say that he is a naturally untalented player is extremely ignorant.

It's vastly blown out of proportion though, and in the latest State of the Game casts they've all admitted how much he's improved.

@Turambar: lol only a degree of sarcasm? They are all friends, they rip on each other like friends do. You should listen to some of the more recent podcasts, Incontrol talks about how the community is taking everything they say seriously, even when they are just fucking around. You also probably think that Incontrol hates Artosis since he bags on him all the damn time.

Anyway, honestly who gives a fuck about if he bitches or not, he is a good player, and knows the game inside and out. Maybe some of it is warranted maybe not, but making a big deal over it is just dumb and a waste of time.

The games were live casted. MLG will probably have the games on VOD, like the did with MLG Raleigh, a week from now.

Uh, no, not really.  I say to a certain degree specifically because I know inControl holds no real animosity against either of them.  I know that they're all friends.  Hell, they spent a while talking about how hilarious it was that people were making a big deal of some of the fooling around they do on the cast (well, specifically the fake TLO German accents).  However, the subtext is also that is how he feels to a certain degree.  We can also take a look at HuK's comment which is where the "bashing the NA players."  In the latest post DC podcast, we do get a bit of Idra going on about how there's a large divide between the skills of Koreans and Western players, an opinion that is not delivered that hashly, but obviously ruffled quite a few feathers.

And also, reading over this thread, it's Welch making the biggest deal out of his "image problem", shall we say?  Most of us don't care that much, but do make a note of it because its a pretty easily noticeable aspect of him.  The whole White Knight routine feels somewhat unnecessary.

Yeah, its pretty blown out of proportion.  It has some truth at the core, and we have seen him at his worst, specifically those matches against Silver and Masq that were casted awhile ago, but the whole "lol Idra rage" is pretty much a joke on these forums now much like "anime is for jerks" is used as a joke and not much else.

This all just makes people's ardent defense of him all the more funny and generally unnecessary.  And if you take a look between the OP and the wall of text Welch posted, you can see how he, not any "Idra Haters", was the one that blew this entire thread out of the water.

Idra has been playing Zerg since before Starcraft 2 was released as his main so it doesn't come as much of a surprise that he ended up winning. (especially after all the nerfs that terran and protoss received)
