-Both games have excellent multiplayer that are a bit hard to get into since the communities are generally very experienced.

Not really. 
SC2 is way harder to get into than MW2, which means not as many non-gamers will play it. 
Also SC2 is only on PC, and that limits the number of people that will play it. This means that it's playerbase will not be as big, especially not with the non-gamer crowd.

Short single player? In MW2 the sp on normal took about 5-6 hours while the SC2 sp on normal takes about 10-12 which is about normal for most games.

MW2 can be played by 14 year olds and has Joint Ops in it. SC2 is a very good strategic/tactical RTS.

Yes in the sense that they are sequels to great games, and no because sc2 came out good and should have after what 10 years, and mw2 was a pile of garbage thrown together last minute
