Do you have any proof of that? Haven't seen any evidence to say it will be the 12th.
Damn, even if the sale hasn't started every time I see that LA Noire for 4.99 I have to harshly remind myself I already own the game and all the DLC for PS3.

I already own it on Steam, and I feel that I'd be stupid not to buy it again at that price.
I'm glad my rationalism can overpower my stupid emotions at times like these.
I'm sure most of you know this, but you can usually get a good idea of when a sale is about to happen by a spike in your game updates. They've been running these sales simultaneously with a neat little ticket system that rewards you for accomplishing certain tasks in the games on sale. Usually those games need to be updated for the ticket system, so if you see your games updating, you can usually tell that the sale will be soon-ish.
So are they worth picking up? Never played a Warhammer game before but I've heard good things about the DoW series.@Rodent said:

Yeah I went to work today hoping to come home to STEAM's big sale...oh well. Maybe tomorrow?
*crosses fingers*
There's a weekend deal, not gonna happen this weekend. Play some Warhammer games instead, they're great.
Anybody else not purchasing steam games right now? I've purchased games on steam before and had them go on sale the next day due to the seasonal sales, so i refuse to get burned like that again.
Anybody care to share their list of games they are hoping goes on sale?

actually there is quite a lot of proof. a indie dev (developer of Cubemen) said it straight up last week that the sale was from july 12 to 23 (which is a thursday starter, and 11 days like all the other sales), he then recanted and said "well i dont know, its what i heard" but the "damage"was done. Then there are the various tidbits, cheapassgamer 2 days ago said the sale was NOT this thursday (and it wasnt), A Virus Named Tom dev said his game would now release in August, about 1 week after the summer sale (and hey, august is 1 week after july 23rd), there are no games coming out on those dates, the only game that was coming out then, Endless Space, got it release bumped to July 4th now...
...but of course im sure some people will still say this is all a coincidence.

You bet they are. Dawn of war 2 is a must in my book. RTS with loot? can't go wrong. Story is great too. go with the classic first, then Chaos Rising and Retribution. the latest, Space Marine is a pretty cool action game, 3rd person shooter. Puts you in the shoes of a space marine in the warhammer universe. At this price, you'll have a blast.
@Rhaknar: No, you're probably right. There's a slim chance that it will happen on or near the 4th, but that's not likely. The 12th is in line with 2010's perils of summer sale date.
I don't think we'll see the sales for a while now. The fact so many indie developers have mentioned they'll be towards the end of July probably isn't a coincidence.

Just picked up Dawn of War 2 and the expansions for £4.99! Bargain.

@WinterSnowblind: I'd find it funny if they started on the 4th just to make them all liars.Well, at least my money is safe for a while.
Not a very professional move.

Thinking about Retribution.

What lead everyone to believe it would be coming this week, anyway?
It's been the last Thursday of June for the past two years. Apparently Valve don't like to do things with 3's.
The Summer 2012 sale has been pushed indefinitely, rumors say Q1 2013. No word on what this means for Thanksgiving.
It's funny how I have a lot of games on Steam that I haven't even installed, and yet I'm really looking forward to this sale. XDYou disgust me. I'm in the exact same situation as you are. So is everybody here. We disgust me.
I can't wait for the sale. I just bought Dawn of War 2 Retribution (I already have the other two) for $7.49. Now I'm going to finally play through those games =D

What's even worse is installing, backing up, and then deleting the game. This is what I do all the time.

No, no, no. No. Steam Summer Camp is more than just an unspeakable amount of games on sale. It's more than that. It's about looking forward to new wallpapers, reading Sir Roderick's letters, maybe earning Achievements for the Camp, even crafting something. It's about community, it's... An experience. Do you believe in magic? Anyone can do a Summer Sale, but only Steam can do a Summer Camp.
At least that's the way I see it. Then again, I also just spent all my money that I was saving for the Camp on TF2 keys. So take that how you will.
Then come along with me, we'll dance until morning 'til there's just you and me.@valrog: I do believe in magic, I do.
And maybe, if the music is right, I'll meet you tomorrow, sort of late at night.
And we'll go dancing, baby, then you'll see, how the magic's in the music and the music's in me.
Ahem...
These are what I hope ends up on sale:
- Quantum Conundrum (I doubt it, being so close to release but who knows)
- QUBE
- Alan Wake (+ American Nightmare)
- Binary Domain
- Psychonauts
- Toy Solders
- Tropico 4
All day, but the summer sale lasts for about 2 weeks, and the deals change everyday. Also, timezone doesn't seem to effect when the sales end. I'm Canadian, so sales start and end at 3AM instead of midnight. So how exactly does the Steam sale work? This is my first year with a capable PC. Does an item stay on sale all day or is it only for an hour? So you basically have to be watching it all day.
@Banky: Pretty much everything is on sale for the duration of the ~2 weeks. Just remember: do NOT purchase anything that is not a daily deal! Something may look cheap to you but inevitably the next day it will be a daily deal that is even cheaper and you'll get burned. Worst case scenario is the thing that you wanted doesn't get a daily deal and you purchase it the last day of the sale instead. You don't lose anything, just have a potential to save more.
