@spyder335: true, but there's a sale going right now, you'd probably be able to get those games for that price without all the hassle of buying stuff in the market and all, but hey whatever works for you ;P
I won Renegade Ops with under 1500 gems. Someone beat me the time before so I specifically waited till 1 minute before and upped the bid to 1550. Gave me the difference after it confirmed I won. Also helped that it was like 3 a.m. EST.
It is a really interesting system that I hope they continue to do on their sale events. Let people build up their gems over the course of months then have an auction where things can get crazy.
I got Renegade Ops too! It cost like 1487, i think they stopped giving back the difference and just took your max bid. Pretty cool game (a Giantbomb 5 star!) but I'm pretty bad at it.
I had expected the auction prices to come down over time as people burned off their gems, but that wasn't the case, it held steady and even went up slightly. I think there are still a lot of gems out there. Who knows, maybe people will burn them for card packs during the sale.
My gems were the accumulation of the last three sales worth of badges, so I don't think I'll be competing in any auctions soon.
This sale I'm just shooting for completing a badge or two, and trying for the holiday badge.
