    Hey all, today's steam deal is 5 star wars games (jedi knight 2:jedi outcast, dark forces 2, jedi academy, mysteries of the sith and dark forces) for $4.99. I know its only $5 but are these games worth taking up hard drive space or are they junk??

    Jedi Outcast alone is well worth $5, the rest is frosting on top.

    Absolutely. They're some of my favorite games. Message me and let me know if you'd like to hit up the mod community and play some multiplayer of the games.

    What are these games, MMO's disguised as action RPG's or ? I liked KoToR but the combat wasn't the highlight IMO, are they more or less that combat style?

    They're among the best Star Wars games. For reference, that list also includes Republic Commando and KoTOR.

    They're straight up first person shooters. You can go third person lightsaber if you want in most if not all of them, and Jedi Academy only has third person lightsabering. Also, you don't get a lightsaber until Dark Forces 2. You're just a soldier (the dude what steals the Death Stars plans IIRC) in Dark Forces. And they're AWESOME.

    No, these are pure action games. The first were first person shooters, in the later you could play in third person as well. I still think Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are the best lightsaber 'simulators' ever made. And they are among the best Star Wars action games.

    And they control perfectly fine on M+KB, the games were PC exclusive if I recall correctly.

    @RazielCuts:

    Jedi Outcast is like a first person shooter for about 1/3 of the game . Then you get your hands on the lightsaber and it morphs into a 3rd person action title. Great gameplay, the Star Wars environments are nailed, some mind bending puzzle solving. I think it is the best Star Wars game to be had.

    Remember the games in this series being quite good when I played them so if they're part of a Steam sale I'd recommend them as a better buy on Steam.

    : Glad I could help (and I hope you agree about the controls once you play it yourself ;-) ). I am installing Jedi Outcast at the moment myself, it brings up memories from over 10 years ago. Thanks , I would have missed the deal.

    If you are using a widescreen monitor it is a good idea to read this thread to get Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy to support widescreen:

    Academy's gameplay still holds up really well.
    As does JKII: Jedi Outcast.

    You have to put in the realistic dismemberment cheat because it is awesome. Also Jedi Outcast has one of my favourite ending to any video game. The games are dated though so you have to ask yourself how high your tolerance is for old game design.

    What are some good cheat commands? I bought it and have only played the second Outcast game on the xbox a long time ago.

    If you're not buying this for Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith, then I say go for it.

    Sadly, if you do want to play those two games, bear in mind that they are very broken. Being old Win95 games they come with all sorts of problems. No redbook audio (so the music isn't there), cutscenes and menu screens appear inside tiny windows, sometimes the color palette gets all inverted, frequent crashes, conflicts with 3D acceleration. etc. For a variety of reasons, LucasArts cannot change or fix the games, so they're offered as-is.

    I can't be more help than this, but I remember g_saberrealisticcombat 1 from Outcast. Type it into the console, it's a must. I'm sure you can find the rest on the web somewhere. I think g_dismemberment (value) does something as well, you'd have to play with it though.
