It's that time of the year again!
It's that time of the year again!

Well, it's that time of the year again when Steam pilfers money from everyone's wallets by putting a crap ton of games on sale. What games has everyone bought thus far or strongly recommend that are on sale? Are there any games at $5 or $10 you think everyone should take advantage of?

Also, I feel like everything on Steam taking forever to load and use whenever Valve introduces a new Summer Sale is another yearly tradition.

Possibly because I'm not in the greatest of head spaces right now, or optimistic in where things are headed, but the only stuff I've looked at so far are very lewd, and very gay.

I always tend to hoover up the bargain bin of my wishlist when these sales come around.

    Pilgrims,

    Kingsway,

    Sid Meier's Pirates &

    Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

for 11 euro's just feels like a good deal to me.

Only thing I’ve gotten so far is Deep Rock Galactic, which I already owned on console. But I saw my brother bought it and really want to play with him, and $10 was a good price for that.

I’m in a place where it feels like nothing on my wishlist gets discounted enough for me to make an impulse purchase. I probably delete more from my wishlist than I actually buy these days. Game Pass has really supplanted past years’ Steam sale sprees.

Gonna pass on this one. My backlog is at least 100 games deep, and I can wait on re-buying FF7 Remake; as if I don't have three or four other JRPGs that I want to get into, including replaying Persona 4...

@facelessvixen: I haven't bought anything yet. Just perusing the NSFW and LGBTQ+ tags and seeing what's on sale there. A lot of just weird shit on Steam it turns out. I mean weirder than just porn games. Quite a few games either involving Hitler, or Nazis, or Stalin and most of them seem to also involve furries. I don't know. Maybe Steam should have at least a little bit of moderation on some of this stuff. I mean, keep the porn. Just get rid of the Nazi crap.

I'm currently trying to decide between buying Disco Elysium + Oxygen Not Included or just buying more Stellaris DLC. Maybe a mixture of the two?

Don't watch streams of people playing Stellaris. Once you see what the DLC you don't own adds, you will want to buy it all because your game will feel empty in comparison when you play.

I mean, normally I would say that you're just scratching the surface but... yeah, Sex with Hitler is a pretty good representation of the dark side of Steam; granted that the game itself doesn't seem to go beyond the "joke" of Hitler having sex with anime girls, based on a thread about the game that I'm looking though. But, ah... yeah; people still like 4chan, apparently.

Anyway, I know a site if you want some more options. I accept PMs from people that I don't follow.

@facelessvixen: Oh yeah. I have a few sites I visit for that stuff already. I mean, a lot of that stuff can be found even just on itch.io.

But anyways, getting back to the Steam sale...

I decided to pick up the To the Rescue and Cat Cafe Manager bundle. Unfortunately, the story of To the Rescue has been that it's been kind of plagued with bugs. I'm not sure what state the game is in currently, but I know the team has been working on getting it to a better place. Hopefully it's gotten there. Helping some virtual cats and dogs might be a nice escape from terrible human beings right now.

@brian_:...I mean, I have a more efficient and community oriented zone in mind that I've been around since 2017 and more or less use exclusively for this subset of gaming; one of which many like-minded indie game developers also utilize in order to get more eyes on their various projects and Patreon pages. But, like with how I'm trigger shy with mentioning grey markets by name, I don't want to unintentionally breach one or two of this site's community guidelines, and you haven't enabled PMs, so, whatever works for you.

As for wholesome, Calico might be worth looking into. If I'm reading the screenshots correctly, you can be a cat girl, boy, or non-specific-gender-person riding on the back of a cat, and hang out with capybaras in an onsen,

@facelessvixen: I'm familiar with the zone. I don't post there or anything, but I check around there on some projects every once and awhile.

I think I already have Calico sitting around from one of the big itch.io bundles or something. I should play it at some point.

So far, I've bought the following:

Sniper Elite 3 with the DLCs

Sniper Elite 4 with the DLCs

    Dirt 4

    GRID

    Portal 2

    and Stardew Valley

Because of my region, all of these games amounted to less than $5. So, I am pretty happy.

    I’ve pulled the trigger on:

    * Norco

    * Lego Skywalker Saga

There’s a few more on my wishlist that I’m wavering between. I’d like to snag them for my steam deck but it’s hard to justify purchases of games I’ve already played/purchased on other platforms.

Picked up a few things that have lived on my wishlist for a long time:

Also bought a couple games that caught my eye just recently and were more of an impulse buy:

I'm debating whether or not to buy Tetris Effect: Connected. I know A LOT of people on the site consider this game an absolute masterpiece, I just can't decide if I really want to spend 20€ on a Tetris game...

Oof, this year's summer sale got me good and might not be done. Gonna lump my Switch buys in since that's running concurrently.

    Games for me:

    • Saviors of Sapphire Wings/Strangers of Sword City - Hoping this one scratches my JRPG/Etrian Odyssey itch. Mary Skelter couldn't keep my attention beyond one sitting.
    • Chernobylite - The Waypoint crew's brief stint with this game has me more interested than Fallout 4 being $7.99. Plus getting a bit nighttime drunk and delving into a game that'll probably scare me shitless sounds like a good time!
    • Norco - Couldn't help myself with the glowing praise for it on the interwebs. I'm sure Citizen Sleeper's not far behind this one!
    • Cat Quest II - Should be a good mindless time couch co-oping with friends over.
    • Black Book - Thought this would be just for me, but 30min in and I realize my wife would enjoy taking this journey with me.
    • UNSIGHTED - The moment the time limit triggered on this game, I died and lost 4 hours to my remaining time. Immediately chickened out, but I want to get back to this one!

Games for the family (mainly the almost 3 yr old)

    • Unpacking (First thing he did was put absolutely everything on the floor, cackling the whole time, this was a good buy!)
    • Forager (Maybe a little violent, but it's been scratching my base-building itch I didn't realize I had. I think starting him on his own file and letting him at it will avoid good deal of combat.)
    • KeyWe (This was getting hard for me and a friend after only a handful of levels, but with no time limit, I think he'll enjoy the letter-specific levels at least.)
    • Toem (Haven't pulled this out yet, but hopefully the characters pull him in!)
    • Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon (Haven't pulled this one out, this one might be more for me lol)

    Grabbed a couple of things:

And in the spirit a few others in the thread mentioned, I felt like picking up something very gay and a bit sexy (I'm not about to broadcast anything too extreme to my steam friends, even if I were looking for something seriously porny), so having eyed it for a while I grabbed Heart of the Woods, too.

I ended up getting more than I had planned to:

    • Final Fantasy (Pixel Remaster)
    • 20 Minutes Till Dawn
    • The Room Three
    • The Coin Game
    • Neon White
    • The Lost Legends of Redwall: The Scout Act 1
    • Crystal Caves HD
    • Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Most of my purchases this year were more impulse for game to play on the Steam Deck. That thing has got me buying more games than usual for sure.

    • Titanfall 2
    • Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
    • Might and Magic Clash of Heroes (third time I've bought this)
    • Below
    • Heat Signature
    • Morphblade
    • Murder by Numbers
    • Into The Breach (third time I've bought this)

A few titles I had played before elsewhere but didn't have them on my PC yet. So far I've spent some time with Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, which is great, and Below, which I had played before and enjoyed but the difficulty was a bit much. The new Explore mode that Capy added to Below is still challenging but less punishing and I'm really enjoying it.

I’m here to eat my own words after a game I did really want, Songs of Conquest, went on sale for 25% off. Played a couple hours of it last night, and boy is it a Heroes of Might and Magic III homage through and through. If you like the HoMM games, there are far worse ways to spend your money and time.

    Alright, I'm done.

    1. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
    2. Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition

Already have the latter on the 360 but it was a freebie and I've long retired that console.

Oh yeah, they localize the prices based on the region's economics. So, in Turkey right now, games on Steam are dirt cheap. I just bought a bunch of Xbox 360 games (SR: Gat out of Hell, Binary Domain, Risen 2 and Just Cause 2) to have them available in case I want to play them again for around 2 dollars.

Steam recognizes which marketplace to give you based on your IP, but I am not sure a VPS/VPN would solely work because I had to give it an address it recognized. I tried buying Halo: TMCC as a gift for my friend in the US because it was around 2 dollars (compared to 15 in the US) and it didn't let me cause the price difference was too great. :))

@daiphyer: yeah, after digging into the topic and a few articles later, I have indeed realized that my country has cheaper prices compared to USD. Not the lowest country GDP dirt cheap priced, though, but somewhere around the 20%-50% cheaper mark.

Well, I guess that's cheap enough for me. 😁

Besides, based on the articles I've read, steam has basically made it infernally more difficult to cheat their sale system. 😋
