Super Meat Boy. I thought it was Braid but I checked my history.

    Get out while you can.

Now I have 20+ games and I'm still not done Super Meat Boy.

I have 300, and most of them have no time played.

I'm going to bet my answer is also going to be, by far, the most common: HL2.

Though to be fair, it was more that I bought Half-life 2 retail and had to install Steam to play it. I guess that counts?

Well I bought the Half-life pack at a store, but I could only play counter strike with this strange program called steam. But, the source pack was the first thing that I bought using the store itself... That was a christmas present to myself way back in the day

I beta tested a version of steam before it came out. It was a horrible piece of shit back then :( The only game on it at the time was counter-strike, if I recall.

I remember the error log folder for steam created so many .txt files that windows would crash when I opened the folder. I took a screenshot of the folder properties and it was like almost a million files... I really need to go find that :D

Hmm. Well my Civilization 5 boxed copy was the steam version, so that? Im not sure I've ever actually downloaded a game from steam. It's all codes from humble bundles and PC games I bought that ended up just being the steam version anyways. I am not a pc gamer by any stretch of the imagination though.

Retail copy of Orange Box. I purchased it because a friend of mine convinced me to get it for Team Fortress 2. Strange enough, I never saw myself playing that game, but now it's my most played game of all time and I regret nothing.

First thing that registered was a friend's friend's serial I was using to play the original Counter Strike (pre 1.6). One day Steam just locked the serial to my account. According to the store records, first thing I ever bought was Borderlands. Though I question that, their record keeping might not go back far enough to see my first true purchase.

Winter sale 2008 was where it all started for me:

    • Stalker: Shadows of Chernobyl
    • Lucasarts Adventure Bundle
    • Torchlight

First game though was a gift copy of Half-Life 2 some time earlier that year.

I think the first game I ever registered was Dawn of War 2 but the first game I actually purchased on Steam was Torchlight on my Macbook Pro. Since then I've bought a few more games for it. But yeah, I got into Steam properly pretty late and would use it much more if I had a gaming PC.

Half-Life 2. I guess I was technically in the CS 1.6 beta in 2003 when it first launched. What a piece of trash back then... it has gotten marginally better, but there are some weird unfixed crap that I am still not super happy with.

Hmm, I didn't end up joining Steam until a long while after it came out, my join date is Feb 17, 2008. So, I think it's safe to say my first purchase was actually NOT Half-Life 2 since it was outdated at that point. It's kind of hard to remember what it was, honestly, but I'm pretty sure the first thing I bought was a combined pack of TF2 & Garry's Mod.

Coming from console gaming, I wasn't aware at the time of all the crazy Steam sales that go on all the time, but as a newbie to steam, I bought it at full price, and figured It was good because I could install a bunch of other source mods. Honestly, in retrospect, it was kind of a bad idea, considering I could have waited for a steam sale and just bought the valve complete pack for probably about $20 more. Oh well, at least I had fun with them, and I still went buckwild on my first few steam sales. Now I have about 275 games in my library. Sheesh.

First game I got was Portal (when it was given away for free), but the first one I bought was Dirt 2.

Ironically, my PC was not strong enough to run Dirt 2, and I have not booted it up once to this day.

Believe that after the Orange Box it was either Unreal Tournament3 or Torchlight.
