Street Fighter IV
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Jul 18, 2008
After nearly a decade in hiatus, Capcom's signature mainline fighting game series resurfaces with its fourth main installment, combining the traditional 2D gameplay with modern fully-3D graphics.
Evo2010 annoucned, Caesar’s Palace Get Hype!!!
Evo2k9 was the best thing ever this year and I hope Evo2010 is going to be even better, hopefully I wont just be watching from a computer screen this year!
Get Hype!!
While I'm sad that it won't be at the Rio again (The seafood buffet there was top and you could see Penn & Teller), EVO on the strip is going to be amazing.
I wouldn't expect to hear about what games are being played for quite some time though. With 3rd Strike being largely dead and the community rejecting HDR, there's a lot for the organizers to think about.
" where did the new mod on the boards come from? "One word, kiddo:
who the hell is this kid and can someone make sense of his post for me I'm lost." @Gambit said:

" @MrJared said:For a variety of reasons that don't necessarily have anything to do with the quality of the game, but still greatly effected the community for it. First, HDR was never released in Japan and so there's no strong international competition, not that they would have played it anyway (no arcade release + wacky American remake == no thanks). Sure, there's Europe, but the UK players don't travel as much as the Japanese, so as far as EVO is considered, only the US plays it." ...and the community rejecting HDR, there's a lot for the organizers to think about. "Wait, what? Why? "
Second, the release of HD Remix was way too close to that of SF4. While it enjoyed a very strong first couple of months with local tourneys, online buzz, ect, it all came to a screeching halt the second SF4 console was released. For most players, HDR was seen as more of a distraction than anything else.
Finally, while even I'd rather just have us play OG ST for the sake of international audiences, the Street Fighter scene has never been known to move backwards. A great example of this is the Street Fighter Alpha series. The strong competitive scene that was built upon Alpha 2 moved on to SFA3 when it was released and found out too late that it was too broken for serious play, yet the scene refused to move back to SFA2, which is sort of funny in retrospect since its enjoyed a great resurgence thanks to GGPO.
I'm sure that HD Remix will be at EVO, but I'm also sure it'll enjoy lower numbers than last year. It's a great game and I want to say I prefer it over OG ST.. but no one really pays any sort of attention to it, so it's hard to devote time to it. If I'm going to spend time practicing a game that no one watches, I might as well play Jackie Chan ;)
" @MrJared: YOU TAKE THAT BACK, SFA3 is great. Don't make me tattoo an input incorrect shoryuken input on your arm against your will. I'll do it. I did it to some other guy a while back. Also, I need Chun experience so hit me up if you got that Xbox lizzle. "Seconded. Chun is really tough for me, please help me not suck anymore!
When you gonna run the official Giant Bomb Fists of Fury online tournament Jared? GET ON THE BALL JARED.
I main Larcen Tyler in Eternal Champions: Challengers From The Dark Side. If that is at Evo 2k10 prepare to be dominated!
With 3rd Strike being largely dead.No 3rd strike would be bullshit, Its a massive event, enough room for at least 2 Street Fighter games. Plus there are a few really active groups of players in the US (i.e Denjin Arcade).
Also, SFA3 is not great, and TBH nor is SFA2 :P
" This just in EVO 2010 will include Shaq Fu and War Gods. Sure to make this the most badass EVO to date. "SIGNED UP! I main Shaq & Maximus, sup? lol
There was a lot of talk at EVO 2009 that it would be 3rd Strike's last dance. 3rd Strike was a teams-only, 2v2 tournament, which was an attempt to boost entries. I'm not sure it worked, but I do know it wasn't very impressive.
My expectations are for..
Super Street Fighter IV
Super Street Fighter IV Teams
Super Street FIghter II HD Remix (it'll get one more shot)
Tekken 6
GGXX:AC or BlazBlue (depends on what happens with the BB update)
And then, for the 10th year of EVO, possibly an oddball like King of Fighters 98 (it would be the first SNK game in EVO history) or SF2: Hyper Fighting, if they could decide on a worthy port.
" @lordofultima said:What ever happened to us having more matches? You said some time ago you'd be hunting me down again for some fights, but now you even pulled out of that little tournament thingy. I woulda picked Chun and not Abel or Dan! ... Maybe!" @MrJared: YOU TAKE THAT BACK, SFA3 is great. Don't make me tattoo an input incorrect shoryuken input on your arm against your will. I'll do it. Since they'll only be a few months between SSFIV's release and its debut at EVO, I wonder how many people will be using the new characters. I hope some pros take on some of the new characters and try and work them out in the time before EVO. It would be a bummer seeing only SFIV original characters in the Top 8 with none of the Super guys. I expect someone will take Guy or DeeJay pretty far, I just hope we see them at the end. Wong's usualy pretty good at taking new characters so maybe he'll do it.
The only people that will be randomed out will be those that aren't part of any tournament scene to begin with. true tourny players learn fast certain gimmicks and i doubt there would be any one new move they can spam to get them all the way to top 8.

"Nah man with new characters and the old ones getting changes, there will be stuff that only a few people know about come evo. Like if you look back at last year's evo, a lot of people didn't know how to fight Sanford's Cammy, or Sabre's Sakura, or Jibbo's Gen, and Ricky Ortiz was pretty free to Akuma's crossup(or not) tatsu. But now top players are ready for that shit, cause more time has passed. I'm sure a lot of people will be seeing stuff for the first time at evo2k10, because ssfiv will be so new.
