    Street Fighter IV

Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Jul 18, 2008

After nearly a decade in hiatus, Capcom's signature mainline fighting game series resurfaces with its fourth main installment, combining the traditional 2D gameplay with modern fully-3D graphics.

If I suck at Street Fighter II, will I definitely suck at Street Fighter IV???

No because I suck at Street Fighter 2 but I'm a beast at Street Fighter 4.

I voted C. You're going to have to crack this conundrum on your own.

    hmm. no!

and no. there are many differences. you can play it like sf2 and do good if you are good, or bad if you are bad. But with new innovations it really changes it.

I can't play any other Street Fighter game worth jack, but I'm pretty good at SFIV. As much as people say it's like SFII, it's not, really.

To a point, yeah.  Soome of the basic stuff in SF2 also works in SF4.  You just need to practice.  Try renting the game and see if you like it enough to buy it.

I voted "Yes" but I should have voted "I don't know".  Both games are conceptually the same but the battle mechanics are very different so I really don't know.

IMO SFIV feels little like SFII at all.

You will at first, but I've found that SFIV has a much easier learning curve.  I played SFII for several years and wasn't that good, but I've gotten to a decent level at SFIV in a couple weeks.

Well the game is definently faster than street fighter 2 and having a background for street fighter games will definetly help you. Without that background, it would be difficult though. Give it a try and I think you will do alright, now it's a good time to get better at it. What they mean is that the moves are very similar to what your familar with before, it's not exactly the same.

@HitmanAgent47: It's not faster, unless you're talking about Street Fighter 2: World Warrior. The turbo iterations of 2 were much, much faster than IV is.

You''ll probably be fine. IV is very different, but the general background knowledge you gained from knowing how certain moves are pulled off,
the basis of some combos, and maybe even basic knowledge of characters will help.

But if you couldn't even do a fireball in II? Then you're screwed.

@lordofultima: I'm talking about street fighter 2, I didn't say anything about the turbo edition. The op didn't mention the turbo edition too.

Playing online will make you realize one of two things; one, that you are actually pretty good at SF4, or two, that you suck and you get extremely angry when you lose.

I suck at street fighter 2.  In fact, it's a god aweful game in my opinion that is only playable with the stuff they added to it with iterations like super, alpha, etc.  Street Fighter 4 on the other hand, is probably my favorite fighting game.

SFIV is way less crazy and arcane than any game in the SFII series. I can personally vouch that it's faster to learn.

This reminds me a bit of DarkSydePhil. He's pretty awesome with Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix, but he just doesn't understand the new systems and mechanics of Street Fighter IV, which is why he always gets so frustrated.

sf4 was the first sf i took seriously, while i enjoyed all previous ones, i was by no means "good". if anything, i achieved king of the scrubs ranking amidst my friends, but my skills didn't build until sf4 hit. now i've found that my sf4 skills translate back to sf2, so i'm much better at the older games now than i ever was before.

if you want to be good at sf4, you will be, just practice and have fun. in the end, you'll gain skills that crossover to other sf games and other fighting games as well.
